Older Zetor cabs - different types?

Anyone familiar with the older Zetor 8111?

Grew up in the back of one (literally!) and looking to buy one now.

The one we had then had a cab was like this one:

    eyJ3Ijo0MDAsImQiOjcyLCJ1cmwiOiJodHRwOlwvXC82ZTEyZmYwYzQxNWQ5MWJiYWI3OS05ODg1MDdmNjA3MDhmMDkwY2ViODYxYzkyZmNhMDMxZS5yNDIuY2YyLnJhY2tjZG4uY29tXC8xMDQ2NTY4NC5qcGcifQ==

Am working around the UK for 6 weeks and due to view one but it has this cab

    15614619.jpeg

Doesn't look as well and has shorter mudguards.
    Also maybe smaller?

Anyone know why the different cabs?
Or is one better than the other?
Prefer the cab in the first picture, think it suits it better.

To be fair I am prob letting heart rule head not buying newer.

Had no idea old tractors were making so much money!!!

I'd have thought this cab style would be the most common it's the exact same as the crystal cabs the roof can be lifted up at the front about 8 inches for ventilation in hot weather. Personally I've never seen the cab in your first pic on an 8011 but it's common-ish on the bigger six cylinder tractors albeit without that bit on top of the roof. Is that an a/c unit?

The second of your pics is a Duncan cab I think, can be found on a few tractors of the same vintage most notably the mf 290. I think its mainly the last of the 8011's that had these.

Edit: Apologies op I misred your post as 8011 as opposed to 8111. it seems the cab from your first pic is the most common cab for them. They're basically the same as the the crystal cabs except for the roof.

I don't know much about Zetors, but the second cab is definitely a Duncan. I'd say the Duncan is a nicer more "western" cab. I drove an 8111 for a while with the zetor cab and there was an awful distance back to the implement.

I think I rather the zetor cab though, unique looking, and while showing its age by the time it was retired in the 90s, it was the first "q cab" made I gather back in the 60s.

The old zetor cab was big with a seat behind the driver for passengers also room for lots of tools but hard to see pickup hitch.
The Duncan cab a lot smaller but easer to see hitch from, looks very tidy though.

    Go big, or go home!

In the local dealers yard. Also with the Duncan cab. But should it not be badged 12145 ?

Probably a replacement bonnet got from a 12111

    Thanks for that.

Ya that was the one we had with the passengers seat behind the driver.

Would there be any reason why some of them would be fitted with this Duncan cab?

When you say looks tidy - do you mean its a bit too small for operator comfort?

Edit - with the Duncan one is the bonnet extended slightly? (different red in the Nekarsulms post between the windscreen and where the bonnet was replaced) With the Zetor one the windscreen seems to slant out.

Nekarsulm - If you dont mind; where is that one for sale? (its probably too big for my needs anyway)

As far as I know it was only zetors sold in the UK that came with Duncan cabs. Any for sale in this country would be secondhand imports. I'm open to correction on this.

    Thanks.
Would you know why they fitted different cabs in UK?

Am I right in thinking that the Duncan is a more basic cab and likely to have less noise insulation etc?

The only reason I can come up with is that Duncan cabs were made in Scotland.
The Duncan cab is smaller but quite a nice place to work in. I spent a couple of summers on a 12145 with one. I would rather them to the zetor cab actually.

I passed that yesterday and the Zetor stood out amongst the blue Fords/NH :)

Personally I think the Duncan cab only suits a 135. It doesn't look right on any other tractor especially a crystal.

I was wondering what ye were on about with the passenger seat behind the driver seat...

But I found this on google... :)

    http://www.farmersjournal.ie/WEBFILES/000/285/421/749842-285421.jpg

Never seen this before... and the radio on the side of the bonnet :)

Still, I think that farmers journal article said that tractor was from 1969, so it was ahead of its time comfort wise, when you compare it to the likes of a Ford 5000 or Massey 188...

Do you mean it looks well or looks terrible on a 290? I have a 265 with a sankey cab and I think the sankey is the only nice cab on a 200 series Massey.

Ya that was the 8011 but the 8111 had similar layout (with radio moved to the ceiling and gear levers moved to either side of seat)

Good point ya ...... when you compare it to the cab of a 5000!!!

Sorry for not getting back to this, kinda busy. I take it you know what to look out for on them, one thing to watch out for is breaks they are notorious for having bad breaks.
When looking at one how you tell if the breaks are wore is by the adjusters at the back below the cab see pic
    6034073
As for the cab the one I had was rolled and had to put new cab on.
As an aside a good one will pull the s###e out of any the blue are green the same size.

    Thanks a mill for that.
No panic at all, do I do really appreciate you getting back to it.

Ya the brakes were always an issue.
When you get a chance you might attach the pic again as its not coming out for me. Would love to know exactly what I am checking.

Ya, always felt it they were a different colour then they would have been more popular!! That said I suppose the brakes didn't suit if you had multiple drivers on one.

Which cab did you put on and was it much bother?
Did you replace like for like?

I had a 8111 back in the day . Great tractor she was a better puller than David Beckham on a night out .

Also loved the cab . You could put a fridge and a bed in the back and still have room to swing a cat

I have an 8111 myself 1992 with 40k box. Put new tyres on it last year. Pulled a full load of 18 round bales up a hilly field without breaking sweat a few weeks back.
    Basically unchanged technology since 1968.
I reckon there was very few crystals in this country in the late 60's and early 70 s. They didn't really become ubiquitous till the 80's.

speaking of older zetors , anyone familiar with the zetor 7711 , know where theres one in the north and with sterling conversion , i can have it home for around 6800 , how would they compare to the likes of the zetor 8520 which arrived in the mid nineties in terms of quality and reliability , the dash looks almost identical to the likes of the 9520 or 9540 , gears are still between your legs however

    Zetor buyer
I have an 8545 i think she is 98/99 year good reliable yoke no frills, have her screwed out to 90+ horse's she would need a turbo to drive her on but is enough for my needs.
These links will help you decide.
     Zetor 7711
    Zetor 8540
    Zetor 9520/40

From about 1990 onwards they came with a 40k box.

Those yellow Ursus are partly to blame for the crystal being looked on with scorn by some farmers.
They used to rust away to nothing and looked absolutely ****e within a short few years . Some of them had the same colour scheme as the crystal further muddying the waters and convincing people they were the same tractor.
But they had Completely different tin work than the crystal. Marketing wise it was a disaster for zetor having both tractors look the same but then they were built under a socialist regime which believed in dividing up wealth and success amongst many.
