Ok i know its not really the best way of doing it but can i split a sat cable to 2 different recievers, only one would ever be in use at any one time,so no conflict with that, already have quad lnb its just not feasible to run another cable, thanks
Forgot to add either box wont be left in stand by as the other is running

I use an old sky box in one room with a magic eye in another room, not ideal but both rooms would never be user at the same time, depends where you want to locate your two receivers, how far apart they are, if a cable could be run between them.

Should be alright, obviously it will need to pass DC power: use a splitter that only passes DC from outputs to input. (Will have arrows showing direction.)

Missed the last line the first time around, regarding the switch I linked to above, with both boxes on only the master receiver on output A will be able to change channels, the second receiver on output B will be passive with the switching signals blocked.

The only way around it would be a 2 way splitter with power pass to the LNB on each output, not user friendly as the channel on the other receiver will change also - http://www.konigelectronic.com/en_us/television/connection-material/98586

A stacker/destacker is another option down a single cable with independent operation for each receiver, if the cable is of good enough quality.

The first receiver is a manhattan freesat box and the second is an old sky box just running the fta channels,so with this be ok with a 2 way passive splitter which runs on 5-1000Mhz,as i said only 1 woulf be in use at any one time, thanks

I was assuming your 'standby' comments were indicating that the box not in use would be powered down completely, which would probably be necessary with the Sky box to stop it powering the LNB, & therefore potentially interfering with the other receiver's channel selection. Was I right in that assumption?

Anyhow, 5-1000 MHz is no use, as the satellite frequencies go higher than that, as in the splitter linked to in post #5, which also has the power-passing qualities I mentioned in an earlier post.

    Here's another example.

The Konig splitter I linked to above also covers the required I.F. range (950-2150 MHz) with DC passing on both legs.

Yeah, forgot to mention that, & actually reposted after that.
