Volkswagen delays?

    Hi all,

Just wondering if many others on here are experiencing delays with the Volkswagen orders? I ordered a Golf back in May and the order was out through the first or second week of June as I had to wait for additional savings documents.

Last I heard two weeks ago the delivery date was going to be the end of September which would have been a 16 week build time. The sales person contacted VW and I only managed to phone him today and he said the delivery date has been pushed to the 4th of October but the build date has been put a week ahead so it's currently being built.

It doesn't make sense that it's a week ahead of the build schedule and now the delivery date is pushed back a week.

Anyone else experiencing delays? The dealer was supposed to ring me back today and still haven't heard anything and I'm getting annoyed at the lack of communication.

Is anyone else waiting for a new VW? Or a Golf specifically and getting delays?

I'd love to hear other people's experiences with delivery dates. I was hoping to have the car at the end of August, now it's even going to be September?

I've a Skoda being built this week. They send them by train to Emden from the factory so it leaves from the same place as the Golf would be coming from and I've got about 3-4 weeks until pick up. Garage reckons it'll be there by around the 18th of August.

Welcome to the wonderful world of buying a new VAG experience. Lack of communication is par for the course. If you were expecting the red carpet and daily touchy feely calls/emails from the dealer, you were mistaken - but not alone!

I've been down this road a few times. Each time was relatively painless, except the last car which took 6-7 weeks longer to arrive than I had expected.

Assuming the car is being built this week, you should see it land into the dealers within 4-6 weeks from now. Sometimes even quicker. It all depends on the shipping schedules more than anything. So once built it goes on a short-ish train journey from the factory to Emden docks. That will probably happen before the end of this week, or early next week at the latest. Then it could sit on the dock for anywhere from a day or two to several weeks! It just depends on the timing of when it lands there and when the next boat is ready to load up, destined for Dublin/Cork. Once in Ireland, you're then waiting for NVD (the trucking guys) to get it down to your dealer. That could take anywhere from 1-2 days to 1-2 weeks.

I will say though that its a case of it will arrive when it arrives. Chasing the dealer / VW will not speed it up (much) in my experience. VW might tell you it's "prioritised" but that's BS tbh. When it does land in the country, the dealer should be able to light a fire under NVD to get it on a truck quickly though.

I wasn't expecting much in terms of communication, I've just heard of others getting calls with a build date and when it arrives. I didn't even get a call with a build date or anything.

In fairness I got a call back today, but apparently when the sales person was chasing VW for an answer he couldn't get through so will call me back tomorrow, hopefully. He said he was enquiring about another car earlier, which isn't good to hear.

I'd just like some relative dates that's all really. Something like "oh it's being built now, so it's usually 1-3 weeks to ship or "this generally means you'll have it in 3-4 weeks" or something. I imagine quite a few cars are delivered all the time so I figured they'd have an average or estimate from past experience. Even with delays, I'd like to just here it's usually X weeks extra.

I was told the build time of 8-12 weeks, but 12 weeks for them to be safe. I was mentally preparing myself for 12 weeks as to not get my hopes up.

Then the last date for September meant a 16 week time, now October means 17-18 weeks?

I've seen people on here getting their Skodas and Seats earlier than expected, albeit earlier in the year. Was hoping a standard enough Golf would have been the same :(

It's just a tad frustrating not know what's going on at all. If there's delays across the board or with the 1.0 DSG or anything on particular it would be easier to understand.

Would love if it ended up showing up a lot sooner, but I don't think I'll have that luck!

OP, can you get a comm number from your dealer? You can get onto VW customer care with that and chase it up with them yourself. They're pretty decent at coming back with a status.

If it's really being built this week I can't see it taking until October tbh. I would say late August / Early September at the latest.

Have you the "comm" (commission) number? If not, as your dealer for it. Get him to send you a screenshot from his computer of how it looks on his system. I can't remember the name of the system they use now, but basically it gives you a real-time view as to it's current status.
With the comm number you can also ring VW Ireland yourself directly. Its a bit pot luck with those guys though. Sometimes you'll get speaking to someone with half a clue, other times not. They won't tell you anything that the dealer can't tell you though tbh.

Bit of an update here, my estimated date of October 4th has now been moved to October 10th...

On the plus side I actually got a call back today and now have a reason for the delay. A restriction in stock of the DSG.

Unfortunately there's only one 1.0 DSG Highline in the country in another dealer in a colour I don't like and the two 1.4 in other dealers are spec'ed high with a sunroof, 18" alloys and R-Line kit adding several grand to the price so that's them out of the question. I'd be happy to forfeit my keyless entry and park assist for an available stock model but there isn't any!

It also seems like the DSG model has dropped in price for 172, I'll have to dig out my paperwork but the VW website is showing it €1,000 less than the RRP on the product brochure which is what I ordered it at. Almost makes my haggling worthless. Salesperson said he'll get back to me on Monday about the price so hopefully that can be brought down a bit...

Pretty lengthy delay though, I wonder are people finally realising the desire of DSG for daily driving or if their was just a genuine shortage in stock. Nevertheless, it leaves me waiting about 4 and a half months...

Seems it is quite the lottery ordering any VAG car.
My own Cupra took a little over 4 months but I have heard of other Leon's being pushed to over 6 months because of the wheels they specified.
I'm also not suprised that dsg is in short supply. Some folks have said that speccing the 1.4 petrol act engine also delays things as they seem to be in short supply.
