'Honour killing' must be the most inappropriate phrase of all time

In this era of hyper political correctness and proper terminology, doesn't it sicken you that the media still refer to barbaric tribal murders as 'honour killings'? What is honourable about it? Raping and murdering a woman in cold blood for daring to have a relationship of her own choice.

The power of language can be a very influential factor in culture and behaviour. For example, the difference between calling someone a freedom fighter, or a terrorist.
Maybe something like 'cuck murder' would be more useful? The immediate association with being a cuck might be enough to make these losers think twice. After all, it is their 'pride' and reputation they are most concerned about.

What do you think they should be replaced with?

i dont think anyone in the media is suggesting the murder is honorable but that the murder was committed due to perception of the murdered having brought dishonor to the family and thus was killed to restore this honor

There is nothing honourable about killing someone because they choose to make their own decisions as an adult.

It's a complete misnomer, and should never be used, imho.

I think the media in every place where they use the expression 'honour killing' should have to instead substitute that with 'purported honour killing that is in fact very dishonourable and also morally reprehensible'

Muslims don't integrate well with Western Culture.

A lot of them (Not all), believe their own religious rules and laws trump our national rules and laws, and hence a few believe they can do what they wish.

Many Muslims in the UK would support sharia law being in place in some parts of the UK.

Total mess really.
I've nothing against them I'm not racist or anything, but Western (Christian) and Muslims society are not compatible.
This has been shown time and time again down through the ages.

Aren't "the media" simply quoting from the prosecutor's opening statement? Hence the quotes?

Would need to see the court report to be sure.

The BBC reported it as a rape/murder and some think that they are "hiding the true horror of Islamic life.

Its not an inappropriate terminology if thats how its viewed by those who are committing the 'crime'. Lets face it, if they lived back in their own Prehistoric country it would probably be regarded as 'honour'. Commiting such an act in the civilized world however, they should be labelled as the murderous scum that they are, trialed by law and personally, myself, given death by lethal injection once found guilty, just so they cannot do it again, for sure.

I think the point made about the term "honour killing" being used to describe the motives of the attackers is how it should be viewed. By using this term, I don't think it consequently creates a hint of a justification in any form but rather exposes the brainwashed and backward nature of the belief system to which the attackers adhere to. As such, it should trigger right minded people who associate with said belief system (or variations of such) to stand up and speak out among other followers of the belief system to deter any other would-be murderers. It is not enough to simply reactively condemn such acts but instead to proactively preach and speak out against such attitudes that are undoubtedly common among those subscribing to this religious doctrine to ensure that such people are not welcome in the community.
