Ancestry Records Request

Would there be anyone with an Ancestry subscription that could provide a record, or even a screenshot of the record for an ancestor of mine. Martin Casey, married a Maria Duke in St Thomas Charterhouse, Finsbury in 1855. I have the Findmypast record but believe the actual Certificate, with more information is on Ancestry. Also I believer there are 2 entries for him, his Confirmation in to the Catholic Church and a Witness Statement. He was widowed, a Constable, born in Ireland in 1818ish.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    J

    This might be better...

I see on this that Martin is listed as a widow....

I'm not sure if you found Martin Casey on the 1851 Census, but he's listed as "Marlin Casey"....listed him as a police constable

    Hopefully this link opens...

    Also,

If you search 1861 Census, I think you'll find him as a night watch man.

I also came across this as a public family tree on Ancestry...as usual, take it with a pinch of salt, but it may help fill in some gaps for you...!

Many thank for the replies. the images of the Marriage Cert shows Martin as a Widower which wasn't on the Findmypast transcription. I now know he was born in Ireland about 1818. i had followed the wrong path and had him born in Kent in 1837, wrong lad all together.

I looked in the 1861 Census but cannot find him on Findmypast, though I know he was married and had a few children at this time. Is this on FMP?

The Public Tree link is indeed for my gang though I don't know who published it, we must be connected though. I didn't realise these were available.

The Thomas Casey, born 1844, would raise a few eyebrows as Martin & Marie married in 1855.

There seems to be advantages in having subscriptions to both Ancestry & FMP at times.

    Thanks again

    J

    This is the 1861 Census....

I presume its your Martin based on the job of nightwatchman, a natural progression from police, and his wife is listed as Maria.

I presume Thomas is a child of the first marriage perhaps?

These are not on FMP, many thanks for this. It is my people. The 4 year old 'Henry' was my G Granddad who came to Ringsend about 1883. The 'Thomas' would have been born in London about 1844 so I can now search for Martin getting married for the 1st time about 1840.

    Many thanks

Last question for now, honest. On the link you sent https://www.ancestry.co.uk/sharing/11314059?h=1d829f it says Martin Casey was born in Northern Ireland 1817, where would this have come from? The 'Northern' bit I mean. J

Good question! There's nothing on the record that I can see that suggest its Northern Ireland. The box clearly only says Ireland...

Thanks anyway, the search goes on....

Do you know which police he was with?

I have seen the Northern Ireland error before. Since Ireland gets listed as Ireland, United Kingdom pre Free State, people make the jump that is was the same 'Ireland, United Kingdom' as we have today, which would be NI. I wouldn't rely on it at all.

A quick thought: Martin Casey was, on the 1851 Census, listed as a 'Constable'. would anyone know if the London Police kept any sort of employment records of their constables? Just a hope.

The Metropolitan Police certainly did, though on a quick look, I can't see him.

    hjr,
The screen shot you provided of a Family Tree: https://imgur.com/a/bn98Q as I said it is of my gang. How is it possible to contact whoever's tree this is? Would I have to open an Ancestry account?

You can have an Ancestry account without a subscription but you may need one to do messaging. If you've never had an Ancestry account before, you can do a free trial for 2 weeks.

pinkypinky, I have an Ancestry account but not a subscription. I'll check re the messaging. Thanks for that.

Also thanks to spurious re the suggestion of my ancestor, Martin Casey being a 'constable' so might have something in the Metropolitan Police records. I have found nothing as yet, seems a visit to the UK Archives is advised. J
