i'm looking into a build for my brother. this is what i have come up with

NZXT S340 Elite

Asus PRIME B350-PLUS

Ryzen 5 1600

MSI GeForce GTX 1070 GAMING X 8GB

then a SSD, 16gb ram and a 650W psu


it there anything youd change?

Case seems expensive. Not all 650w PSUs are created equal. If this is a gaming rig I'd go with a 7700K if the budget can stretch to it, but if it's a multi-purpose rig then happy days. I'd also potentially wait for Vega.

Looks pretty well balanced to me

You can spend more on a better 500W PSU btw. Look for something like 80+ Bronze, Silver or Gold. These are ratings of power efficiency.

it's for gaming he is also looking at doing things for youtube. the price he's looking to spend is 1300 max and looking to get it in the next 2 weeks as this 8 year old computer is on it's last legs

I'd go with a 1700 if the primary focus is video or 7700K if gaming, although really any (1600, 7700, 1700) will be grand. AM4 platform will be more upgradable in the future too.
