Change name on account

    Hello,

    Basically bill is on mother's name. Herself and the father are separating and she's getting the bills but not paying them. I'm sending the money over to Electric Ireland from the father's bank account but it's not ideal. 

    Father rang Electric Ireland and they won't talk to him because he's not the account holder but he's not talking to the mother and she's living with her sister at the moment.

    We need to get the bill switched over to either my own or the father's name. Is there a way around this. It's an embarrassing situation for us all but surely it's not the first time something like this happened.

    I've also been told there's a €300 charge, is that correct?

    Thank you for getting in touch with us.

    We recommend setting up a new account as soon as possible. There is requirement for new residential customers to set up on direct debit, or pay a €300 security deposit. Once the account is closed, a final bill will issue in your mother's name.

    In order to register a new account, Electric Ireland will need a meter reading and the date the meter reading was taken.

    You can register for a new account here or by calling 1850 305 090.

    Direct debit customers can avail of savings up to 5.5% with a further 3% available to customers with both gas and electricity.

    We are unable to take bank details here on Boards. As such, we can only register non-direct debit customers.

    If you would like to register the account in your name, and do not wish to set up on direct debit, please send us a private message.

    We will require the following information:
    • Your full name
    • The MPRN (this will be on your mother's bill)
    • The first line of your address
    • Your contact number or date of birth
    • Confirmation you are the intended account holder (Yes/No)
