Ok I have a automatic licence(reasons behind it before I get all the not proper licence comments).

I had been looking at different car but as just passed test was struggling to get insurance.

Had been looking and really liked the Fiat 500L mpw
    But it is dualogic.

Fully auto/semi auto no couch but can change gear up and down with paddle or stick.

Looking online some places say is fine some say is not just wondering if there is any document I can see for the definition of what classes as automatic transmission as alot seem to have similar transmission options.

If it has a manual clutch it's a manual, anything else is considered an automatic whether the gears are automatically changed or manually changed by the driver.

Had this reply from DVLA (UK):
    DVLA @DVLAgovuk

"You may find the following of assistance:

Semi-automatic transmission is still classed as automatic; and is mainly found on passenger-carrying vehicles. The driver can select a gear but the vehicle has an automatic clutch.

A vehicle with automatic transmission means a class of vehicle in which either:

    (a) the driver is not provided with any means whereby they may vary the gear ratio between the engine and the road wheels independently of the accelerator and the brakes, or
    (b) they are provided with such means but they do not include a clutch pedal or lever which he may operate manually and accordingly a vehicle with manual transmission is any other class of vehicle.

Please note: Most vehicles fitted with automatic transmission have a “hold” facility whereby the driver can select a lower gear ratio “manually” for descending long steep gradients rather than relying totally on the brakes. This facility is sometimes used for increased power when overtaking slower vehicles rather than using “kick down” on the accelerator, but we do not believe this constitutes manual transmission.

    I hope this helps."

To me this is yes I can drive but then had this from rsa with no back up or detail at all.

    "
If I have automatic licence can I drive dualtronic car?

    RSA Ireland @RSAireland
Hi Rachel. If a driver has a licence restricted to automatic, they can’t drive this type of vehicle.
Car must be fully automatic if driver has a licence restricted to automatic. I hope this is helpful."

If there's no clutch, it's an automatic in the eyes of the licensing authority, regardless of whether you can manually shift up or down with paddles/stick/buttons. If you look on the logbook it will definitively state one way or the other anyway.

Yeah have not bought yet is in UK as they do not do the model here in automatic . When I enter reg to get valuation etc it comes up as automatic.

So will I have any issue registering or NCT etc if they see my licence is automatic. The dealer UK though was fine.

Is there any one other than rsa I can get authority answer from or would I be fine if stopped by police for example?

    “automatic transmission” means any system for connecting engine output to driven wheel which is controlled by any method except one consisting solely of driver operated mechanical or hydraulic linkages;

Suggest you test drive something with a dual clutch gearbox such as any Automatic Renault or VW group car and see what you think.

I will be taking test drive and that before purchase . Have driven manual more than auto to be honest during driving lessons . Can I just ask if there is another reason i.e issue with dualogic driving for your example?

Just to clarify - the dual logic isn't a dual clutch. It's more like selespeed or MMT or ASG. ie a rubbish robotised manual box.

Certainly drive the duologic but try any dual clutch auto before you buy it.

    robotozied????

    It is the future,
    The distant future
    It is the distant future,
    The year 2000
    We are robots
    The world is very different
Ever since the robotic uprising of the mid-90's
    There is no more unhappiness
    Affirmative
    We no longer say "yes",
    Instead we say affirmative
    Yes, affirmative
Unless it's a more colloquial situation,
    With a few robo-friends
