Is there a limit on the number of pictures in the 'downloads' folder?

I have a HTC Desire phone. I previously downloaded pictures from Gmail and they were in my downloads folder. The pictures have now disappeared and I had to download them again.

Are Gmail downloads temporary or is there a limit?

There's a lot of cleanup apps that consider "Downloads" as a temp folder and may have deleted items in there during a cleanup run.

Why not move them to a different folder? :)

If you use Google photos then make sure that the downloads folder is one that backs up, then they will always be accessible through your photos app.

How can I check which folder backs up?

Photos app > sliding menu > settings > backup and sync > backup device folders.
