Battery problems

Hi all,
I've had an Nikon Coolpix S7000 for approx 18 months now. I use it on a weekly basis without any problem.

Went to use on sat and screen said "battery exhausted" - strange! I put it on charge and after approx an hour still same message.

Tried removing bty and memory card for 20 minutes and also tried charging overnight.

Now screen won't even come on enough to say bty exhausted.

Battery is a lithium ion pack.

Any ideas folks

The battery probably needs replacement. Do you have a spare battery to try?
It could also be the charger.

I use a cable which I think is ok. The bty was charged as I had used it on Thursday and showed a full charge so I was surprised when it showed exhausted.

Would you expect a lithium ion bty to fail after about 2 years?

Seems like Nikons QC for those packs might be very much lacking.



I'd pick up a handful of cells so you arent reliant on any one pack.

That really depends on how it has been used and stored. It's entirely possible for a battery to fail in 2 years. Charging it too often, using a cheap charger that doesn't stop when it's full, storing it in too hot or too cold an environment.. these can all shorten the life. If there's a fault in the circuitry of the camera, it could have slowly fried something in the battery, or if the camera or battery developed a fault that caused a short, that could cause it as well.
Was the battery hot to the touch when it said it was exhausted?
