Hi was wondering if there are any plans to move vans away from diesel which are now a bit impractical for deliveries with all the emission controls to clog up, doesn't seem to be any available but Nissan did have one a while back.

small diesels are dead, so expect a resurgence of petrol small commercials

anyway diesel is the last thing you want in an urban van

I would say there are no such plans to eliminate diesels from small vans, Audi have planned a massive recall to fix emissions in diesels and pledged to continue investment in a dinosaur tech. As far as the Volkswagen group are concerned , Diesel is here forever.

Met a lad with an electric van. Serious pick up and class around town but he was burning through tyres!

Depends, if the car companies can threaten thousands of jobs, it won't happen.

Electric van around cities or big towns would be great. As long as the infrastructure is present which in Ireland its not and wont be for a long long time. Mainland to Europe or A Scandinavian country on the other hand

There's a fella that charges regularly at tempelville road that has a Nissan ev , it's silver with washing machine/ appliance repair logos, he's a bit of an expert and saving a lot on diesel he does 300 km a day but with 3 charges , and he catches up on the phone and paperwork while charging.

Saving a fortune at 300 Km a day but there's no way in hell I'd wait that time, not a chance, there has to be more to life than saving money !

It's what you do with the time that matters. If you're just waiting while charging, it would be a waste of time*. If you use the time to do something that you would have to do anyway, then there is no time wasted. That chap does his paper work. That's a smart utilisation of his time.

    * Diesel costs money and plenty of it at 300km per day. Aside from expertise, what precious resource is that chap using?

    Time

He does it every day according to himself, he's not wasting time , he's working on other stuff while charging.

In other words he's having to find things to do that perhaps he normally wouldn't.

Met that guy when I was trying to work out how to use an irish charger for the first time in Lucan. I always thought the guy must be saving a fortune.

It depends on the nature of the business. He'd probably be doing lots of short trips around Dublin - so could work well.

That's a bit dismissive. I hardly think he finds paper work to do, just because he is charging his van. I would reckon he does it, because it has to be done and he may as well do it while he is charging, rather than let it eat into family time, or whatever else he likes to do when he is not on the job. I know I wouldn't create work to do just because I was charging my EV. I would probably be on boards :P

Yeah I've sent a few posts and FB while charging. But seriously though that's a hell of a lot of paperwork , in that amount of Kms.

Everyone's scenario is specific to them. There have been plenty who have told me they wouldn't entertain an EV on the commute that I do but I'm happy out with it. IF his time is productively used - and he's doing savage mileage - then he's making major savings.

The Quay Co-Op in Cork (fairly popular vegetarian restaurant/shop) got an e-NV200 at the start of the year, which I often see in the mornings. Don't know how they're getting on with it. I think the city council have a few Kangoo ZE vans as well.

I've met him as well a few times also. Sound guy and knows his stuff. He was telling me before that he managed to pick up a Leaf from a breakers yard just for the battery. Got it for next to nothing as they didn't realise what they had by the sounds of it. He's planning on using it for a homemade powerwall

    Clever :D

To think that it cost Nissan $20k to buy the battery to put in their Leaf back in the day!
