    Hi guys
I am considering new phones and have kind of narrowed it down these two i think:pac:
The P2 is around 80 euro more expensive as far as i can see, which is at the upper limit of my budget.

Has anyone got any opinions or preferences? Is there another phone i am perhaps missing?
Is the moto also made by lenovo too?
    Thanks

Yep the moto is also mad by lenovo. Whats your criteria for the phone? Battery, camera, performance, android experience?

Another one to look at could be the zuk z2! Specs for the phone price are off the wall

Well I am coming from a Samsung s5, which is getting slow and haggard.
I would like a good battery.I see the P2 has good battery reviews.
camera wise I would like a good one but not a deciding factor!
I don't use it for work as such just social media etc and few apps etc.
Thanks I will checkthat phone out!ðŸ‘

Battery will definitely be the lenovo p2
    Camera would be g5plus
    Performance would be the zuk.

The beauty of the moto phones is they are almost fully stock android, so no bloatware and a true android experience.

You could wait another few days as moto are due to announce the g5s plus on Tuesday it's rumoured, which will be a high spec or at least may drop the price of the G5 Plus.

Other than that it will come down to your budget, if you like Samsung you could pick up an s6 or s7.

I was looking at both these and came down on the side of the Lenovo due to the massive battery. Problem is can't seem to get it for under 300 euro anymore. Three UK were 209 pounds (with 10 pound credit) but are out and not restocking. I rang the store in Newry, he said they weren't restocking. Amazon Italy had them for 250 euro last week but are now up to 290 (and I'm not sure about additional postage).

G5 plus is still good value....

Yes the lenovo seems great but the phone is almost 100 euro more expensive so whether it's worth it is debatable.
The zuk do not have very good reviews in terms of durability, sound a bit flimsy from what I read. Amazing specs to be fair.

I like the Samsung but a new s6 is still over 300 and an s7 way out of my range.

I am kind of leaning towards the moto G5 plus due to the price and spec. Reviews say it falls down in the looks and style department but who really admires there phone anyway.

The misses has a g4 and it's a great phone, it's big and has little style, specs of the g4 are lower than the G5 Plus and her phone is flying so I would presume the G5 Plus is a great phone and is smaller and more compact than the g4,

I'm looking at picking one up myself (g5 plus) and spending the past 5-6 weeks trawling through reviews etc definitely seems to be the best for under €300

As for looks, most phones now have a chunky cover slapped on then and all you ever seen is a screen so wouldn't be to concerned about that.

Majority of reviews which complain about the style of the phone often compare it to an s7/8 or iPhone7, they kind of ignore the massive price difference!

Going to wait see of the price drops with the release of the g5s

Would buying a phone online from abroad be subject to import charges?

Not from within the EU. Someone like eglobalcentral includes the import charges in the cost.

If buying abroad also be careful as you may get the US/Asian model which doesn't have nfc! If that's important to EU.

Buying from Amazon Germany/Italy or anyone of the EU warehouses you won't have to pay import

Just got a new Moto G5 Plus from Amazon.de.

Seems good so far. Annoyingly then sent my the gold version rather than the grey version I ordered. Really not bothered sending it back though.

    How much did you pay?
Was it the dual sim 32gb model?

Good price, that model is the EU version so it has nfc. Haven't purchased from eglobal before, some swear by eglobal and some hate it, very mixed reviews about purchasing from them

Don't know to be honest with you, if you Google boards.ie and the name of any company you normally find a thread relating to someone asking about the named company and if not, throw up a new topic and see what peoples view are on reliability etc....

    These links might help

    http://touch.boards.ie/thread/2057730355

    https://www.google.ie/amp/s/ie.trustpilot.com/amp/review/onedigitals.co.uk

For me I normally stick to Amazon items which are sold, shipped and fulfilled by Amazon as it is a breeze to return/replace or receive a refund an item if something goes wrong.

    thanks.
Eh i have ruled them out for sure and eglobalcentral have a slighter better rep but like you said for the sake of a few more quid its better to go with amazon etc;)

I ordered the moto g5 plus off amazon Italy for 245 euro. Happy out. Was getting sick of looking at phones:pac:

so do eGlobal ship from an EU warehouse - difficult to tell from their site. i.e. are you likely to get hit for customs?

They say on their site that their prices include any customs charges.

Was trying to pick from those 2 phones myself for the past few weeks op. I went for the P2 in the end, 338.00 with komplett incl. carriage.

Was then reading at article today that it's now discontinued by Lenovo, it's only had a 6 month shelf life. They must be concentrating on the Moto G series.

Looking at the same phone on Amazon Italy at the moment! Anyone able to explain to me who I turn to if I need a repair if its purchased from the Italian Amazon? Who upholds the warranty of the device :pac:

I presume it is the seller unless the product is sold/dispatched and fulfilled by Amazon.

If the seller refuses to repair/replace/refund you can then take it up with Amazon and they sort things out between the buyer and seller.

My last phone I purchased from Amazon and it was sold/dispatched and fulfilled by Amazon. The phone had software issues after two weeks, contacted amazon they offered me a full replacement or refund, took the replacement which I received in 3 days and they also sent me all the packaging to return the original phone, it really was fantastic customer service, couldn't fault it.

My G5Plus arrived from Amazon Italy. Phone is great and working well so far. A hell of alot better and faster than my old S5:pac::pac:
Slightly slow postage the only real complaint but only a slight one

I was looking at the Lenovo P2 on Amazon UK.

In the reviews somebody mentions that the phone doesn't support the 4g band 20 800mhz.

And it looks like this means its not much use out the country cos this band is used a lot outside towns/cities.

I'm no expert tho... and a bit disappointed cos I wanted a big battery phone...

Anyone know more about this ?

Yep that's correct, no band 20 on the P2.

As an alternative look at the Xiaomi
Redmi Note 4X international version with band 20. Look for Snapdragon version rather than the Mediatek version.

    I'm out the country like...

    Thanks

Now I'm no expert but I had my P2 in italy and england with no issues on 4g.

    As far as I know...
If you're mainly in built up area / cities then band 20 probably won't matter so much.

It's when you travel to or live in more rural areas then you might only have 3g.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 762 ✭✭✭vidapura

    Right,
    So, I live rural...
    feck it anyway..
Liked the idea of that big battery.

Was lookin at the G5 Plus either but the feckin thing has no compass for me Navigon app...
(I use straight GPS apps in areas where google maps just won't work cos there's no network at times..)

    Thanks

safe to assume the Komplett supplied version is the international one?

I wouldn't assume anything.. maybe ask Komplett and see what they say.

I'm still wonderin does band 20 matter THAT much like...

yeah, and most of time I'm on WiFi anyways, so I think you are right, feck it, I just can't get past the long battery life of the P2 - Think I'll just go for it while its still available!
