Garage advice

I left my car in to be serviced today. Got a call from the garage to say it needed a flexi pipe on the exhaust. The issue I have is that when I left it in last year, 15 months ago, they called and said the same thing. I'm just wondering does that sound legit?

Yea they replaced it both times now.

Sounds dodgy but you wouldn't by any chance be missing a clip somewhere causing excess movement in the exhaust?

I'd certainly push them as to how it needs replacing again and that you're a bit wary of it all?

Ask to see the old flex. Hopefully they still have it and can show you what the issue was.
    Is it frayed/holed?

Did the exhaust sound like a rally car?

That's only in petrol cars. A holed exhaust in a diesel doesn't make half as much noise.

This^^ or a weak engine mounting/engine steady. Also those flexi's from the auto factors are rubbish, you'd be better off paying the extra and buying an OEM part.

I'm getting a bit suspicious myself as the last two times I left my car in for a service they told me it needed something else done which cost 180 to 220 euro. I'm beginning to think they're conning me.

When I questioned it, this is basically what they told me. They have a fairly good reputation so I'm inclined to believe them. It just felt a bit suspicious that it happened twice that I got a call saying it needed replacing.

My knowledge of cars is limited at best so just went ahead with it.
