Looking to purchase a Gaming PC, open the purchasing parts and building from scratch too.

    Min specs required below:
    OS: Windows 8.1 64 Bit, Windows 8 64 Bit, Windows 7 64 Bit Service Pack 1
    Processor: Intel Core i5 3470 @ 3.2GHZ (4 CPUs) / AMD X8 FX-8350 @ 4GHZ (8 CPUs)
    Memory: 8GB
    Video Card: NVIDIA GTX 660 2GB / AMD HD7870 2GB
Sound Card: 100% DirectX 10 compatible
    HDD Space: 65GB
    DVD Drive

Hoping someone can recommend a few options-hoping to keep costs limited to less than 1k.

    Appreciate it

At the top end of your budget but a great PC for the money.

    CPU - AMD Ryzen 5 1600 6x 3.20GHz So.AM4 BOX
Motherboard - MSI B350 PC MATE AMD B350
Memory - 16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX black DDR4-3000 DIMM CL15 Dual Kit
Graphics - 6GB Palit GeForce GTX 1060 DUAL Active
    HDD - 1000GB WD Blue WD10EZEX
    SSD - 250GB Samsung 850 Evo 2.5 "
    Power supply - 550 Watt Corsair TX-M Series TX550M Modular 80+ Gold

Search for these parts on geizhals.de 1 by 1 and select mindfactory from the list of sellers. It's gives you a discounted price. €920 for all of that + €30 for delivery. It's a German site so google translate is your friend.

That leaves €50 for a case from Amazon.co.uk. Don't get this from mindfactory as they will charge another €30 delivery for cases. Amazon delivery will be free on a lot of items.

This is nice but will push you a little over 1k.

You can't overclock the CPU on an A320 chipset though.

Also an M.2 SSD is barely worth it on this budget. They are around double the price for the same capacity as a normal SSD.

The board I mentioned has M.2 anyway so he can get one later if he wants.
