Anyone got a rough idea on the cost to fit an A?C compressor in a Passat CC? €1000 for a genuine and €580 for a non-genuine were quotes I got. I can get one from a scrap yard for around 150 based on a partfinder request but have no idea of the labour involved. Thanks

The labour depends on the location in the engine bay - but you shouldn't pay more that €100-€150 to have it replaced...

BUT... And this is a huge but - changing a compressor is a big thing for the whole system. It is not plug/play job. Not only the system needs to be properly flushed to get rid of any metal scrapes, but once the system is open and atmospheric air can get in, a new drier needs to be installed too before filling it up. All that will add to the cost of labour - check the quotes you got if they include the above...

When it comes to the compressor itself - I wouldn't go with a used one. Get a new one, but from a reputable company - Delphi, Hella, Denso, Bosch, Valeo, Behr. They are around €400 for the part.

Take the 580 option. The odds of a second hand compressor working right is about 40% and they need to be fully fitted and gassed to check. My advice don't be penny wise and pound foolish

Probably need to factor in somewhere between €50-€100 for a full regas of the system too.

You should get a new compressor supplied and fitted for €600 or so all in if you shop around a bit.

EDIT: Actually re-reading your post the €580 quote is for supply and fit.

For labour only and a regas would probably be around the €200 mark.
