Equalled her PB into a -1.2 headwind. Strong medal chance tomorrow.

Morland is 77pts ahead of her national record schedule, and O'Connor, who had PBs in the High Jump, Shot and 200m, is 154 pts ahead of her PB schedule, which means, if all goes well tomorrow, O'Connor could break Morland's national senior record, while Morland will be just behind her.

Interesting to see how Akpe-Moses and Neville go in the 100m. Both must be outside medal shots.

Christopher O'Donnell looks good in the 400m.

Most sprint events had negative winds.

Update after the Long Jump: Morland with a PB now +120, while O'Connor dropped a few pts, now +139. Morland on schedule for 5789, while O'Connor is on for 5771.

    Javelin next.

Javelin update: Morland with another PB is +154. 2:22.3 in the 800m will give her 5823.

    O'Connor, dropped a few more, is +107. She needs 2:17.3 for 5739.

The 800m times I've quoted are from their most recent Heptathlons.

    Morland 5th overall, O'Connor 8th.

Brilliant results in the W100m and the M400m, but what about the multi eventers? 5th and 8th and the two best Irish scores ever.

O'Connor will be still eligible in 2 years' time.

Agreed huge results especially when you consider that Morland had only set the previous record some 6 weeks ago

    Here event breakdown

    Event| Ranking
    100m Hurdles|2
    High Jump| 10
    Shot Put | 18
    200m | 6
    Long Jump | 7
    Javelin Throw | 6
    800m |15

Her points tally would have earned her 8th at the u23s Championships last week.

Great results from Italy and fabulous win from Gina. I'm sure ciara neville will be disappointed with her runs considering she ran 11.5 in Tullamore a few weeks ago.
She will bounce back and these 2 with sharlene
And molly should take all the beating in the relay.
Great confidence booster for these athletes to run that relay in the diamond league couple weeks ago.
Lots of good work going on in high performance with these athletes in the last 18 months especially warm weather training camps for juniors relay squads, coaching seminars in Athlone back in autumn of last year with good coaches from britian and Europe brought in to help these athletes and up skill coaches making a big difference.
Athletes getting exposure to better events in Belgium and accross Europe definitely making a huge difference.
We need a lot more of this and investment to help these young athletes compete at this level.
Gina is lucky she is with a top class club and coaching set up in britian so we have to make sure the Irish based athletes are getting every bit of help and in vestment available moving forward to the next olympic cycle and championships after.

Not sure I'd ascribe that to luck to be fair. Seems she and her family took a decision several years ago to move to a place where she'd have the best available support and facilities for the development of her career. Shows the level of ambition and dedication that's involved there, I think. Just glad she seems happy to continue running for Ireland for the present anyway.

Not a good advert for AAI support so?

Absolutely. I have no wish to put any negative slant on this story, its all good news and AAI are entitled to take a lot of credit for it. I think they have a pretty tough task, but as regards the juniors, they are clearly doing something right.

Hammer bronze for Michaela Walsh! And straight back out there for the Shot final!

    O'Donnell 6th and a national junior record in a high quality 400m.

Yes, a fantastic performance by Michaela Walsh for bronze, no time to celebrate and back out for the shot, currently in the Top 8 there. A very exciting Men's 400, the young Italian was very strong in the home straight, Chris O'Donnell should be very happy with his U20NR and 6th place. A PB and 6th for Mark Smyth in the 200m. The Irish team are performing very well.

Team GB are having a very strong day, they have picked up a few gold's. Interesting that Jakob Ingerbrigtsen only came 8th (in 3:58) in the 1500m, I thought he was going to walk it. Maybe the 1500/Steeple double is a bit to much for him.

The Germans were a full second faster in the heat/semi according to the official website. Our bunch managed 4th in the final, which is a bit disappointing.

Ah, I missed the result for the 3rd heat. Still, the 3 medal winning teams were faster than our national record. They did very well all told.

Sexton's winning time of 21.57 would have placed him 4 th in the Senior Nationals this weekend. He has yet to turn 17.

That girls 4x100 can be proud of themselves. All underage for the worlds next year so hopefully they can put in a strong showing.

Irish sprinting really looks like it's in a good place with the various performances across the different competitions. Something to be very excited about.
