    HI
I was sacked from my last employer , due to being in a fight with my boss ,
the incident was sorted with the union and gave me a Statement of employment which says no verbal phone reference giving , what do i tell a recruitment agency or employer when they ask about this ?

I'm assuming they are giving you a written reference.

I would query with your previous employer (if appropriate) that whilst you understand there is no phone reference, is it permissible for your new potential employer to verify your written reference? This would be fairly standard.

Also, do you have a colleague you are friendly with who can act as a referee?

I left a job under a cloud a good few years ago but used a colleague, who had been my manager for a period in there as my reference moving on.
