Insurance never paid

Just got a phone call from principal.

they claim that they never received the DD documents when I started cover 11 months ago.

I sent 2 mandates by mail and one by email.

They claim to never have taken the money - I'll have to check my records to be sure but I don't recall noticing a payment. - I'm assuming they aren't lying here, until I've checked my statements.

They are saying that there was an error, and the payment was never taken nor the issue flagged, they only noticed now that I am up for renewal.

Has this ever happened to anyone?

This seems like it's a pretty bad situation, I've essentially been riding uninsured for a year. and I know it's hypothetical, but if I had crashed would they have covered me?

It's essentially going to make my insurance this year more expensive.

What are my options here? I assume I'll have to pay it, which sits in my craw a little, as I suspect they'd have used it to get out of paying if I needed to claim.

If you havent paid for a service then surely you will pay for it...

i can only assume they are offering you that they will cover the 11 months once you pay it?

If so then i dont see the problem. mark it down as lucky and move forward.

Also check your monthly statements surely you should notice money not going out..

just a mistake, they wouldn't have been able to get out of paying a claim over that, they didn't get their money but they also didn't cancel your policy.

just pay it and tell them to make sure the quote for this year coming they give you is a good one because of cash flow now that you're paying 2 years insurance at the same time

Yes, this. I'm probably going to ask for a favourable rate this year.

I'll have to check my bank account when I get home, I simply wasn't watching when the payments were due. I have a gut feeling they didn't take any payments though. So I don't think the error has cost me anything. and I have to pay twice for the old policy.

Paying for 2 policies this year is going to be a kick in the teeth though.
