Combining Satellite and Android Box

Like many of you, I would like to get rid of Sky. I don't have fiber broadband, so I am looking for an android box that will allow me to hook up my satellite for all the free to air channels available, as well as run Kodi for my streaming needs. I'd also like to hook up my external hdd for my owned content, and ideally view all this in one player without a lot of fuss. Any ideas?

    Why specify Android?
Would not Linux or any other operating system do you?

Because a decent Android box in the living room with the Play store on it is a great piece of kit with entertainment options far beyond TV and streaming.

Have a look at the Amiko a4 and the wetek play 2.. they are 2 options.
There is a new technomate android box out this week aswell not sure on the price but the Amiko and Wetek will be about £100

Oh this looks interesting. I have had the Ariva 120, 150 and 153 find them fantastic. This looks great. Wonder could I put the RTÉ and TV3 players on it?

    I'm getting a V-box soon
    https://www.vboxcomm.com

Main tv is smart so can stream no bother from V-box and my WD cloud NAS

The other TV's I plan to get a fire stick (possibly sideload kodi) to get tv reception in any room and stream from NAS

Hello Ghosty, curious, how is the v-box working for you? It looks like an interesting piece of kit. I currently use sky through a hd repeater (trouble running wires so sky box on one room and tv in another). Was thinking of going fta and this sounds like a candidate. I've seen mixed reports as regards the user interface etc.

Haven’t got it yet but I plan on getting it soon! :)

Setup saorview first and test, then dish with proper aerial

It will stream no bother to your smart TV but the interface will be horrible. You will be much better off with some kind of Kodi device ( unless of coarse your smart TV is a Google/Android TV)

The v-box is a Network only device, the only user interface it has is through a browser. When you use it with TV's you will need some kind of client device such as a R-Pi running Kodi, in which case how good a user interface you get will depend on how good an interface your client device has.

Thanks for the advice. I think I'll roll up the white flag early and go for a freesat box and an aerial.

Sky is being turned off/cancelled later this month so also in the same boat. I am currently looking at a Technomate TM-Twin 4K - Triple Tuner 4K - does anyone have one of these or can someone recommend a similar product? I'd rather a twin sat tuner and a single cable than this one but other than that the spec looks good.
