    Hi

Anybody know the installation process with virgin media.

The duct between the street and house is broke so eir is a no go without fixing it.

So just wondering do virgin media have to get cable from street to house or do they take a cable from an overhead splitter somewhere to house?

    Thanks

Most commonly they run along the fascia of terraced houses, you'll see quad tap connection attached to the eave.

    Much appreciated.

Website tells me broadband is available at my house so hopefully there is a splitter on a nearby house.
Just curious can neighbors reject to cables coming from their premises to mine ?

In my case it's underground the quad tap is inside a manhole on the footpath. The duct to the house belongs to VM, hopefully yours is clear( if you have an underground set-up)

It is quite an old house so no VM duct is installed and the existing eircom duct is blocked unfortunately.

The Eircom duct being blocked won't matter as VM can't use it. You must have an overhead cable running along the facia.

Good cables go to heaven, Virgin cables go EVERYWHERE.

I've seen their LMR400 trunk cable clipped to tree trunks (no pun intended), cable tied to chain link fencing, surface-dropped along grass verges.... Never mind the drop cables. If they can tie it to a stone and throw it at your house, they will.

    You betcha.

Old place the drop runs along a wall then along a row of trees and over a wall to next door. It now has a pole to elevate it over head height but thats a recent addition.

Current premises they flung it over the roof. Its not tacked down, just draped over.

The guys who rewired Enniscorthy recently did away with all that shoddy stuff, they did a great job in fairness. It was dreadful.

House we renovated has coax going from the attic (close to the connection point) to the living room, would VM technicians have a problem using this. We'd rather not have holes in insulated walls.

I don't think they'll use existing cabling, when I got connected the installer ran a new cable from the connection point outside right up to the box on the skirting board. Would it be possible to connect the new cable to the existing cable and draw the new cable through?

Got the bb moved a few hours ago. In my case he tested the existing cable and used that, no questions. Galway area. Also got an upgraded modem (white instead of the older black one). So far happy out, will test WiFi coverage with the new modem in the next few days.
