    Hi there everyone,

You guys all helped me out massively about 3 years ago when I bought my last car (03 Yaris) so I couldn't in good conscience buy my next one without running it past all of you knowledgeable folk.

Here is the car I'm interested in. It is a 141 1.3 Yaris Icon+ 5 Door.
    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/toyota-yaris-1-3-vvt-i-icon-rev-camera-alloys-cli/15912898

I went to see it and test drive it earlier today and I'm at the 90% stage of putting down that deposit.

She drives like a beaut. She sounds lovely and I haven't noticed anything obvious just yet.
    • Is there anything known about these cars that I should look for when I take her for another test tomorrow?
    • Is there anything I should be looking out for in relation to a UK import?
    • Is there any common issues with this model that is worth noting?

Thanks in advance for any and all help and suggestions!

Find out the uk reg and do a history check. The 1.33 engine is perfectly suited to the Yaris and they're a very good car overall.

    Thanks Colm,

I've done a history check, and its all fine except it says there is still finance outstanding in the UK but nothing in Ireland. Is that a major concern?

Never heard a bad word about the Yaris since it came out in 98 I think it was. Seem robust little cars and everyone that has one raves about them. Possibly not as stylish as some competitors but that's subjective from person to person.

I can't comment on the UK finance being an issue or not so check that out thoroughly. Someone here might be able to advise.

Only problem I see is the speedometer is in MPH like all UK cars and we use KMPH on our road signs but that wouldn't bother me.

Thanks bmwguy! Yeah the speedometer doesn't bother me in the slightest. Didn't even notice when I was test driving her earlier!

Still have the kms on the inside ring anyway. Just check it's priced well compared to the competition and the finance is ok then belt away if you like the car.
1.3 engine will be nice in a small car too. My mother has a 1.3 Micra whereas most are 1.0 and it's quite a decent engine for the size of it.

Spec is really high having dual climate on a car that size.

Yeah, I'm really impressed with the car itself so as I said I'm 90% there. Just final checks and research before I rock in with my deposit. :)

We have a hybrid version and I think it's a really nice car overall. Thought there was good interior space and high spec. Sometimes I find the front suspension a bit light on speed bumps etc. I quite like the styling of the car, for what it is.
Only problem we have had is the tyre pressure warning indicator is on, but I havent bothered to have it looked at as I believe they are troublesome and I can see the pressure is OK.

    UK registered vehicles

Irish consumers should also be aware that UK registered vehicles which have finance outstanding before purchase can also be seized from the Irish owner by the UK finance house.

For all these reasons Cartell.ie strongly advises customers to do a finance check on a vehicle before purchasing it (September 2010)

    could be still relevant

Yes. I would want confirmation that it's been paid off. I think cartell or one of them can tell you the finance company?

Thanks for all your help guys. I called the finance company and they confirmed they have no interest in the car and have sent me an email confirming the same. So based on that and another test drive I am now the proud owner if this little beauty. :)

The only off-putting is the short test on it

I'd prefer to have 2 years

    It doesn't have test. It's 2014 so isn't due a NCT yet.

    Yep, exactly Colm.

Understandable concern Mikey if it had a test but as its not yet 4 years old it has no test yet and by the time the NCT is due, I'm still in warranty so if there is anything wrong, the garage will cover it :)
