Thermostatically Controlled Shower Definition

    Hi all,

I'm researching the definition of a "thermostatically controlled shower unit". Does that meant that the thermostat itself must be in the shower unit or can having a hot water tank with a temperature control mean that it is "thermostatically controlled".

    Thanks!

You do have a thermostat in the hot water cylinder but this just means that the water can only get so hot.

A thermostatic shower keeps the water temperature stable even if someone flushes the loo or runs water elsewhere in the house.

Usually this is done with a 'thermostatic shower valve'. This is a mechanical gadget that can maintain the temperature desired.

I guess you are reading a spec or a safety requirement somewhere. You cannot meet this requirement by having a thermostat set on the cylinder. The main reason is that the cylinder must have the thermostat temperature set sufficiently high to kill legionella. (But there are others, such as the possibility that the thermostat in the tank will fail.)
