Saorview Channel Reception

I recently moved into a house just outside Innishannon in Cork. There was a satelite dish which fed two coaxial F connectors. Along with this was another standard coaxial connector which I assume was fed from the aerial on the roof (I am still searching in the attic to confirm this).

When I switched on the TV I foudn that I have the free to air satellite channels from the UK and I have all the saorview channels. My problem is that while most of the saorview channels have good reception a few of the others (RTE 2 in particulat) are very bad.

I dont know where the problem might be, the fact I perfect reception in other channels is confusing me and I dont know if it is a coverage/reception problem or a problem somewhere else. I am not familiar with Saorview, is it normal to have good reception in some chanels but not in others?

Where would everyone suggest that I start looking for a solution?

Some channels on Saorview are broadcast on a different multiplex than others e.g. RTE1 and RTE1+1 are on a separate multiplex from RTE2 and TV3. So reception can vary. You could check signal level on channels that give poor reception to see if they are on 'the cliff edge' i.e. almost giving enough signal for good reception or whether the level is low. Compare this to signal level on channels that give good reception and if there is not much difference in the level but enough to cause breakup then check the aerial connections carefully as a small tweaking can make all the difference.
Not knowing the make/model of the TV I'm not sure how to advise getting into the menu to check signal level but the manufacturers' handbook (if you still have it) should provide the answer. If not do a quick google search for finding signal level on your make of TV and you should get the answer there or simply post model in this thread and someone should be able to help.

Could you post a pic. of the roof aerial? Just in case there's only an old VHF band III aerial up there, or something.

Thanks for the reply. My TV is a Sony Bravia, I will try and see if I can find channel signal strength in the settings somewhere. If signal strength is the issue what would the solution be? Having only moved in recently to the house I can't say for definite how good the connections are or if the wiring was done right, would it be worth getting someone in to begin with just to check them?

Pic of my aerial set up attached.

Well, there's a wideband UHF aerial there, pointing the same direction as the VHF aerial on top, so Mullaghanish transmitter presumably. The little box underneath I would think houses only a combiner, so no amplifier that could be missing a power supply.

That setup should be alright for Saorview, if all is in good condition, but there's obviously a problem somewhere.

See if you can get the TV to display channel no. &/or frequency: Mullaghanish RTE1 should be on UHF channel 24 (498 MHz), RTE2 on UHF channel 21 (474 MHz). (With the rest of Saorview also being spread across these 2 frequencies.)
