Touchscreen broken and won't recognise USB

The screen of my Xperia Z5 Compact smashed and while I can see messages/emails etc flashing, the touchscreen isn't working any more. I need to find a way to remotely access the phone to read my viber and whatsapp messages. I had set up both accounts to backup to gmail weekly but for whatever reason the backups are three weeks old and I've a lot of information since then that I'd prefer not to lose.

    So far I have tried
    - USB OTG to mouse and also wireless mouse. Phone doesn't recognise USB (it never did, even before I smashed it but I wanted to try just in case)
    - I downloaded airdroid via my google account to the phone but I can't log in to the phone so that wont work
    - I also read somewhere that using google's Find My Device I may be able to get remote access, but it only gives me the option to ring, lock or erase the phone
    - Teamviewer app etc wont work as I need access to the phone
    - I am using an older Sony Xperia Z1 compact (lol I love my old Sonny phones!!) and I am wondering if there is anyway to connect that screen to the other phone?

I could send it away to get the display fixed or even one of the shops in town but from speaking to a few of them I'm not convinced that they wouldn't do a reset and loose all the data.

    Please help! Thanks folks.

For USB OTG, you need to have it connected before you reboot the phone.
When the phone starts up, it should see the usb mouse.
