Anyone got Sky without HD Pack?

Thinking of signing up for half price (6months) offer - Variety pack without the HD/boxsets. Anyone have this package? Having to pay €17 per month for HD sub is bananas IMO - but i'm wondering if it's actually worth signing up at all without it.

You will still get BBC and RTE (as far as I know) in HD but not Tv3/TG4/SKY etc. Depends on your TV too, I suppose and what you watch.

I always went without HD, but have it since I got SKY Q. I enjoy the clear picture quality, but I only pay 25 a month for a year, would not pay anymore than that myself!

Dont have Sky but I thought TG4 was available on HD. I could be wrong though.

So if i take the HD pack, it would cost just over €500 for the first 12 months. It's only then i could start to bargain with them on the cost of the pack i guess.

Well, I got the sky Q deal as a new customer. I pay 25 a month for standard pack (no discovery/children's/movies etc) but I get HD and boxsets. This was about 8 months ago. When offer expires, I will bargain or get a freesat box, as I have found very little I watch on the channels I have to pay for.

That's not a bad deal you have Kurn. If i was to take that bundle today (Original plus HD/Boxsets) it would cost €23.25 for the first 6 months, then €46.50 for the next 6 months.
Problem i have is that the kids like to watch Cartoon Network/Discovery etc.

Have the Sky Q box without HD, as mentioned before get RTE/BBC/TG4 in HD as part of the standard.

HD is better but is it worth the extra a month...? not for me. You can still rent movies in HD from the Sky store if you want.

I find with Sky sign up for the Minimum first. They will always have offers for Sports/HD for 1/2 Price for 6 months , essentially costing 3/4 price for the year

HD package is a waste of money. The only perceived benefit is inclusion of the box sets but even they aren't complete. Any that I tried to watch had a limited number of episodes or seasons.

Guys, HD is the modern day equivalent of colour against black and white in my opinion. The difference in picture quality is huge and anyone that says otherwise, should go see an optician. The cost is a personal decision, whether one can afford it or not.

Really?! They advertise that box sets are free, but you can't watch an entire season to the end - that's crazy!

Any of the older, more popular ones that I tried to watch weren't complete. Dexter for example started on something stupid like season 3 episode 6...

HD is presently on a half price offer, if that helps to sway anyone.

When my contract was up I dropped the HD, I don't have a high end TV so don't need to be spending out the extra. Would rather use the savings to save up for newer TV. Eventually it will be standard.

Only downside is, you need to be careful recording programs, eg if you record on Sky Atlantic HD, it won't play so just got to make sure you record on the regular Atlantic channel. Was a pain when dropped as had to reset each recording. But still not worth the extra they are charging.

Nope, I have boxsets, and they are lots of complete full sets, with all episodes there...just watched GOT and West Wing completely, as well as Banshee and currently Ray Donovan.

I didn't know you could get the Sky Q box without the HD sub, I wonder would it be possible to wrangle a new Sky Q box off them as our current old Sky+ box is on its last legs. However I have downgraded massively over the past 2 years and dropped all the trimmings so now just on the original bundle but with a 15+yr loyalty record but of course that will stand for nothing with them as usual.

I'd keep my current box if they threw me the HD for free on a new contract or whatever I wouldn't mind #WishfulThinking :p

I got the Sky Q box and no HD for €23.50 per month.
The problem i have with it is that as mentioned earlier you can waste time going through epg looking for channels.
Is there a way of only showing your subscribed channels or greying out your non subscribed channels?

Not really... that I know of, the best thing I can find is pressing 'ok' then the arrow up and down buttons to scowl through the channels without changing over, or buy a harmony remote (expensive) and save favorites to the remote.

I am looking to get Sky but need to know what HD channels you get on basic package without HD sub. Can anyone confirm that RTE1/2, TV3 and TG4 are hd as standard on non Sky Q cards?

My eyesight is fine. I'd prefer HD but my enjoyment of a programme has never been dampened by its lack. Definitely not worth extra money for me.

    Really???
then something is wrong with my Q box
I have the standard pakkage without hd and have the HD stations like RTE without sound
Have to scroll down to the other old fashioned ones to view and sound

I had been told that I will need the hd subscription to get them in hd. Now I'm confused!

Also, other forums are reporting that 3e HD is supposed to launch on Sky next Tuesday, but no official confirmation of this has been given by TV3, so will will wait and see. If it does launch, I presume it will be part of the paid HD pack like TV3 is already.

You may have to go to settings > audio visual > digital audio output HDMI > and select normal
