I got a call from Vodafone today.

I have my mobile phone with them and they rang to try change my broadband to them as I'm currently with virgin.

He gave me the sales pitch and I asked what speed could they offer. He said he would have to check and call me back. Wasnt off the phone 2 mins when he rang back to say they could offer me siro broadband. He was very excited by this but I hadn't a clue what he was on about. He is calling me back in the morning with prices.

So long story short should I change?

The service from virgin is ok. Drops from time to time but overall its ok but just ok.

Haven't got a clue about siro but just want to know should I change

Siro, if available is fibre to your home. Go on the Vodafone website and check yourself if 1000 meg is available at your address. I had a rep rotting the ear off me at the door trying to convince me Vodafone could give me better speeds than VM, complete bolllox of course they could only give me fttc which in my case is inferior to VM.

Vodafone are telling me they can give me a gb but recommend I take the 150mb as it's all I will need. So I contacted vm and they say Vodafone share a line with sky and eir and there is no way they can offer me that speed as they use old technology so I'm even more confused.

VM sales wont know squat about any other provider, they're their own little bubble.

Most non-virgin customers can only get ADSL(slow old bb) or VDSL (slightly less slow old BB). You can get SIRO which is rare at the minute and is FTTH. Its much better (150Mb is the slowest, 300 and 1000Mb being available).

Basically the two best options in the country are FTTH and HFC(Virgin), and you have both. So choosing between them is like choosing between a Mclaren and Bugatti. Both should be excellent.

The dealbreaker will be TV, Vodafones TV is a very new product and may not match Virgins if you have it.
