Entitled to dole between jobs?

    Hi all
Hoping someone here can help regarding entitlements to dole or welfare between leaving one job and staring another.
I graduated from college in June and will be moving to London to start a new job in September.
I am currently employed in a shop that is part of a chain, where I have worked for the last five years. To get straight to the point, they're making my life a misery (think it might have something to do with me leaving). I gave always worked in the same shop in the chain with occasional cover days in other shops when needed. For the next 3 weeks I've been rostered to work between 4 shops while everybody else is staying put. Basically, I'm been reduced to relief work when I should be full time in my base shop. It's driving me bananas and they refuse to change it. I really want to leave but being without any money for several weeks before moving abroad is not really feasible.
What I want to know is if I leave, can I claim any kind of benefit between leaving and starting new employment? I know there's a 9 week rule if you leave voluntarily but is there any leeway for a temporary payment or some other kind of payment I can claim?
    Sorry for long post. Thanks

A lot depends on the reasons you give and the decision of the D.O.

The more significant problem is that you well need to wait for a period before you can collect in any instance.

If you are going to change jobs and be unemployed then save money to keep yourself going in the interim. I.e. don't just leave on a whim.

You have to wait three months after leaving college before you can begin a claim for JA anyway so that might be a problem.

This is incorrect the three months wait doesn't apply to college but secondary school. Please be careful giving out erroneous information.

The 9 weeks also isn't mandatory so you should keep that in mind. How many days a week are you working ? If it's 3 days or less you could claim casually and continue working part time. If it's for the entire week but short hours you could make a claim it was no longer financially beneficial to work due to travel costs etc. Make the case that you have a job lined up and be clear your continuing to search for other jobs in the interim ( this is very important )

Most importantly you should always approach your local office or citizens information rather than rely on strangers who could easily make a mistake.
