I just dropped my car off at the mechanics, got quoted €276.54 for an oil change. This includes labor (€87.50), oil filter (18.08) and the oil (€124.30) which is bloody expensive I think. The amount of oil priced is 5.65, but I thought my car only took 4.5 liters.

It's due a full service soon, and I was going to get the lot done until I seen the price. I was quoted €665.95 which includes, oil change, AC filter, diesel filter, air filter.

Car is a 2012 Ford Focus 2.0l TDCI.

The price of the oil filter and oil is over 2 times what I would expect to pay for them...

Yea, I mentioned that I wouldn't normally pay more than €100 to for an oil change. I used to do it myself but now I only have street parking. I used to have access to a pit before. Would you suggest using some car stands maybe? I am very tempted to do that the next time.

If you know how to service it yourself then there should be no need to have a mech do it for you.

€87.50 seems crazy for labour on an ordinary car for an oil change, is there something super complex on a 2012 Ford Focus 2.0l TDCI.

A Ford main dealer service is €129 when booked online, my assumption would be oil/oil filter and check on other items...

    It's outrageous.

Presumed it was for a Ferrari 458 not a Focus when I saw the price!

    That's extortionate imo.

my bro and I change our oil ourselves, but its different on a 2003 and 2005 car that have 2.5L engines for a number of reasons. with a 2012 I wouldn't be breaking the verified oil service history, for when you intend to sell it on...

dry fill is 6.45 litres normal is 5.65 as listed by lubricants advisors.. it is a 5w30 nfc grade oil which is about 10 euro per litre depending on where you get it... filter is small paper element around 12 quid..again retail depending on what and where you get.. realistically outside the 129 ford price i would imagine it should be 160 -180 in a main garage allowing for the oil amount... certainly NOT that amount..
either they are blatanty trying to get up on your back or they made a mistake in the pricing.... air filter on them is a tube type.. around 20-25 quid pollen from 20 to 30... 670 for full service with all filters... taking the P!!!

I'm all for garages making money for their services but that is an extortionate price.

I'd be looking for an explanation on that - that's mental money!

    Buy a vacuum pump

Any recommendations? I saw a hand operated one on youtube but could see no name, might look one up as pita and hassle to drain.

I use one. Need to dig out the name of it for you. Only problem with a vaccum pump is that it may will leave sludge the end of it

They must be doing more than just an oil service for that money.

An oil service on my F10 5 Series costs €165 at a main dealer through www.bmwservice.ie

That's probably oil & filter, fuel, air and pollen filters?

Main dealer oil service on an N47 is approx. €160 including screenwash!

I don't have a current price for the oil filter, but I just bought 5 litres of synthetic 5W30 from a Ford main dealer for €32. You are being ripped off OP.

I drive a hybrid and thought my oil was expensive, say you'd need to shop around in future, buy a vac pump, ramps,do your own work,or get a bud to help
