iD mobile 4G network with 3G speeds

I got a 60 GB mobile broadband plan from iD mobile - living in Leixlip.

Using a huawei e5577 4G mobile broadband dongle

Firstly I was going away on holiday the day after I bought it in carphone warehouse Blanchardstown

I was told by sales guy that I had 6.3 GB of data roaming, arrived in France, turned on dongle and sim found network but would not work - I was told by iD mobile that the eu regulations do not apply to data only products!

Back home in Leixlip the last few days, the broadband is painful

On the 3rd try, the best I'm getting with 3 bars 4G coverage on Three network is:

    54 ms Ping
    2.42 Mbps Download Speed
    1.61 Mbps Upload Speed

For comparison using my Vodafone sim card in the same dongle
    2 bars 4G coverage

    42 ms Ping
    12.24 Mbps Download Speed
    5.72 Mbps Upload Speed

It feels like I'm getting a very poor contention ratio on the three mobile broadband network.....

Do ID have 4G, thought they were 3G only.

Wrong forum by the way, this should be in midband

I'm having the exact same issue with the E5577 ( vodafone data sim ) versus my Vodafone S7 phone for internet connection.

The E5577 is showing full bars on 3G and I am getting 7-10 Mbps download speed.

The S7 is showing 2 bars on 4G and I am getting 17-20 Mbps download speed..

I would have assumed that seeing as both sim cards are Vodafone on the same network that speeds would be similar?

Also bought a wi-fi extender, when I hook this up to the E5577 the download speed actually decreases...

    ( vodafone data sim )

Bill pay or prepay? Prepay data sims dont get 4G.

    Repeater? They do that.

Sorry in hindsight its bill pay data sim on a monthly contract. €20 for 10 GB with Vodafone which is extortion in my opinion.

Anyway the Huawei is stuck on 3g compared to the S7 that is showing 4G which I thought is strange.

Surely if one was picking up 4G then both should.

The Wifi extender is just an antenna booster to mooch off poor wifi signals in campsites etc.

The huawei mifi may have a smaller antenna, its a basic enough unit, but its more likely vodafones systems flagging it as off. Seems like that's common for them.

Ask them to check that SIM for you.
