Changing cabinet/exchange

    Hi guys,

Hoping somebody could help out here. My house was build in the 1970's and at the time the nearest cabinet was approx 2km away. I am still connected to this cabinet and as such can only get BB speeds of around 8MB at best.

Since the house was a built a village grew around it and the nearest exchange is now about 100m away. I can actually see it from my gate! If I could get connected to this I could get speeds of up to 100MB.

Does anyone know if Eir will actually do this? I don't think it'd be a huge job to connect a line elsewhere? Has anyone had any joy in a similar situation.

    Thanks,
    Barry.

You aren't the only one. They won't do it.

When FTTH rolls around between 2018 and 2022 you'll be sorted out.

Ahh that's a bit crap considering the phone cables run right by my front yard to a housing estate down the road. Very disappointing.

They actually did do it for me at the time (have moved house since) but it was just a nice KNN engineer I suspect.

I was living on Fairview Avenue at the extreme end of the Clontarf exchange. I ordered VDSL and the KNN engineer was surprised to see that my line was directly fed back to Clontarf rather than going to the cabinet on the main Fairview road near the footbridge. So I was looking at 7Mb at best. After a phone call and a trip back the cabinet, he told me that he moved me to a spare pair and I was now connected to the cabinet and getting full 100Mb sync.

That sounds promising, maybe I aught to get them to send out an engineer and see what he can do. As it is, we are in the "live" fibre status marked on the map and as such they have no plans for FTTH at my premises. They're assuming that 100mb is available to us. A few of my neighbors are in the same position as we are all on the old cabinet.
