Teeth worn down badly due to grinding - terrified

to go to a dentist but know I have to before it gets any worse.

I have always suffered with bruxism (teeth grinding) only in my sleep since I was a child and about 12 years ago I got a night guard for this which saved my teeth from wearing down any further and was great relief for me. Unfortunately, about 2 years, I threw the night guard in a hotel bin while on holidays by accident and never got it replaced.

In the last year, my top 4 front teeth have dramatically worn down (middle 2 are the worst) and my confidence is just shot, I only smile with my mouth closed and only open my mouth slightly when talking as so conscious and paranoid about it.

I have money saved up at the moment and really want to get my teeth sorted. I am aware the treatment option will likely be implants / dentures as damage is irreversible but I am so embarrassed, ashamed and terrified to go the dentist to get a consultation as I have let it go so bad... and know I have a huge amount of work to get done.

Has anyone else experienced badly worn down teeth and what treatments did you get and any recommendations of dentists - live in the midlands and there is a few good dentists. I don't want to ask any family or friends for recommendations as that paranoid and it will be obvious to them what I am looking into. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Dont worry tooth ware is very sortable, its a bit complex but the right dentist can fix them up good. Here is a severe and fairly mild case to help you judge were you are at.

    Severe

Thank you Fitzgeme for the reply, it is much appreciated - unfortunately I fall under severe, but just on the top teeth and only one of my teeth is severely worn down, gums have also reclined and a large gap between my 2 front teeth - bottom teeth are fine, have to prepare myself now for a big job to sort them and the cost, but I know it will be worth, how would you judge the best dentist without looking for recommendations from family or friends?

Severe wear is usually a specialist job. Prosthodontics (A prosthodontist) is the speciality of dentistry that deals with this.
