I had intended to do the motorbike test for A1 LIC.
Instead I did A2 test today .. automatic and passed as did the missus.
She may have took tester up wrong ..he mentioned to her that ...
As the permit she had, as mine, was for A1....that if she passed the A2 ...all she would have to do is do the modules..to get the A ...without the need for any further .. official driving test ....
    Is this correct
    Appreciate any advice.
Ps. Automatic I mean ..no interest in manual LIC.....

Did either of you have A2 on your learner permit? because you are not allowed to ride an A2 or do an A2 test if not

Why would you turn up expecting to do an A1 test on an A2 bike?

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.

I think I have him sorted for this over private messages, there was some confusion by A1 he means the old A1 which is the unrestricted A now.

the tester was talking about him holding his A2 license for 2 years then doing the modules to upgrade to the unrestricted A

reason he has ended up with the A2 is he did the test on a 400cc scooter which met A2 category not A.

someone in the NDLS centre gave them both permits for category A1, A2, A, so obviously wasn't very helpful to them in explaining the system

but all is sorted now I think, he is going to stick with the A2 license and upgrade by doing mod 5 in two years. He has no need at the moment for big bikes so it's no big deal

I dropped him a line too but for posterity, it should be noted that fundamentally, the A1 you might get today is more or less the same as it always was (they recently added a power to weight restriction as well as a 125cc displacement restriction). The corrected designation of the pre-2013 bike licence was 'A-restricted'
