I would imagine it needs a lot of soaking time & a very wet cloth!

Spray or dab on some wax polish, let it soak in. Wax polish doesn't dry as fast as water, will soak in and loosen the crap, and the wax will protect the paintwork when you wipe it off. You want to leave it on for about 5 or 10 minutes, but do it when its cloudy and cool.

    Absolutely no elbow grease!!

Bird crap is an abrasive, if you try to remove it with any force it may very well damage your paint.

I find it best to fold a piece of kitchen towel to a quarter of it's size, soak it in hot water and then place it on top of the bird crap. After leaving it for about 20 minutes gently lift off whatever is ready to be lifted off. Kitchen towel is also slightly abrasive so go easy with it. Unless it's very bad, this method will remove most of the crap, thereafter I use some QD and a microfiber to lift off any remains.

There are bird crap removers and I've used Poorboys Bird sh#t remover (ya that's its name) in the past. It will strip back any protection so I only use it now really on bird droppings on glass. My usual cure is basically the same as Ronnie3585 above by applying wet kitchen paper or microfibre to allow it to soak. Then it's either wash the car with BH Autofoam and/or BH Shampoo with 2BM wash, or if I'm really lazy, plenty of QD and gently wipe.

Edit - The gentle wipe is with a crazy pile MF and that then goes into the wash.

I usually spray it with quick detailer,
That will soften it, to the point where the force of the spray will actually move it.

Then gently remove it with a micro fibre.

    No elbow grease.

if you're very lucky, it won't have etched the paint / clear coat. But if you've parked the car in the sun and its baked on, it will undoubtedly have etched the paint. You'll see a cloudy milky mark on the surface of the paint after you've cleaned off the mess.
If you see that, the only solution (in my experience) is a few minutes with a DA (machine) polisher. It will not come out by hand.
