Presentation for a Job interview?

    Hi folks,

Just wondering has anyone had to do a presentation for a job interview before? I've done a role play before, but never a presentation. Do they generally relate to the position you're applying for, or could they be on any random topic? We will have twenty minutes to prep (with internet access) for a five minute presentation, so I'm thinking it could be on something random to see how you would approach it. I've a bit of teaching experience so not overly nervous about it, but any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I've had to give presentations in interviews before, but on my work so it was pre-made. But if they have a set time allocated for you to make the presentation and give it, then they're probably looking for something more general than specific. So focus on the content but also the context, and your delivery. It's all well and good to have good slides but if you don't know what to say or don't have it planned, it won't run well. Google presentation skills, and the company that you're interviewing for. Sometimes people post their experience online.

Depends on the job you are interviewing for. If its Sales related then they will be looking at how you pitch the service/product they offer.

I have had to present on my past work- techniques, challenges, issues- so I had the slides prepared in advance. The OP is being given a topic and a timeframe to make their slides.

Thanks for the replies. It's for a coordinator role that will involve giving training and handling recruitment. So I'm thinking they be assessing the clarity and construction of the the delivery, rather than focusing on the topic.

Yes they just want you to present any topic. Its a test on how you can explain a topic and speak in front of people.
