What are my options?

I'm moving to a new job soon which will involve a lot of miles and comes with a company car. My question relates to my own private car which I will need to sell. I've sold cars privately before through donedeal and carzone, but only 5-10k value.

My current car is 3 years old, exec saloon, 25-28k value, so I am dubious about whether someone will pay that to purchase a car from me privately, even though I have FSH etc. What are my best options for selling the car?

Stick it up on donedeal and see.

    What car is it?

You could approach some dealers and see if they will buy it from your, expect about 60% of the retail price. Selling private can work on cars that price but you need to put the work in with a very good presented ad and also the car needs full history and be in relatively showroom condition.

Is there any chance with the job that you can get mileage expenses instead for your current car? Might work out best in the long run if the hit is too large selling private.

Thanks both. It's an A6 and I will put it up on donedeal and other sites. Useful to know what to expect from the dealer - only getting 60% won't work, I can't afford to lose that much on it.
I could go down the mileage route for my own car, but have had high mileage job before and found that the higher servicing, tyre, maintenance costs plus the depreciation from then being a higher mileage vehicle made it an unattractive option in the long run. I don't have to decide straight away though, so will probably try to sell it as I start the job, and then if I am successful, move to company car.

Unfortunately you will have to price a bit below what it could cost to import the same car from the UK. That is what you are up against.

    Don't forget about insurance...

If you are not insured for 2 years, your NCB will go back to zero. Important if you ever wanted to insure something in your own name...

    Mileage rates

It all goes down how much you'd be paid to run your own car. If you'd be getting civil servant mileage allowance - around €0.40 per km - and do 50kkm in a year, that is €20000.

Diesel should not cost more than €5000, servicing and other expenses another €5000. That leaves you with €10000 towards depreciation A YEAR...

    BIK

Don't forget about BIK - there will be something to give the taxman back there...

So it isn't a clean cut honesty. I would probably stay with my own car, would you get a company A6/E-Class?
