Kia Cee'd vs Venga

    Hello,

I am looking to get a new-ish (1-3 year old) car to replace the existing 10 yo Kia Cee'd petrol. We have our eyes on a particular 141 Cee'd, which is goodmoney for the model, year, and low mileage, and comes off a main dealer. And we need a diesel, too (driving 30k km a year); the Cee'd we are looking at has a 1.6 engine.

But there is also the Venga. It seems to have about as much horizontal boot space (seats down and seats up) as the '07 Cee'd, while being more compact because of a shorter front. It is significantly cheaper. But it is, for some reason, far less popular, and perhaps the reason is good?

I would suspect that the 1.4 diesel on a Venga (the only Venga diesel in Ireland) would have to be driven harder than a 1.6 on a Cee'd, what with the same weight and a taller profile? So might eat more fuel, but also might be cheaper to insure?

What are the things we should consider here? What are possible reasons to go with Ceed vs Venga and vice versa? Would appreciate all hints, thanks!

The cee'd is a better car all around tbh.

The Venga is on the Kia Rio/soul platform so is a bit smaller in reality. I think the Ceed is a better all rounder but there's nothing wrong with the venga. There are different bhp versions of the 1.6 engine in the Ceed

It seems to be a common opinion that the cee'd is better, but what is it better in? Should we expect the cee'd to be more reliable? Drive better? etc.

It's from a class above really, it's in the same segment as the golf, focus etc. The venga is based on a car from the class below, eg fiesta polo corsa.

The cee'd is better to drive, look at, and it has a much better interior.

Reliability is much of a muchness between them.

I'm reading up on turbos and it looks like the turbo might live longer if the engine is not driven hard, especially if one stops after the drive? A common scenario for our use is a 20 or 70 km motorway drive, then a stop (because it is a commute and time is often of the essence). The 1.6 Cee'd won't have to be driven as hard - should this be the decider?

No, it doesn't really work like that!

    Thanks for all the comments!

After test drives, cee'd won. All the considerations here helped. Also, the Venga's cabin noise was significantly louder. The cee'd had more punch - moreover, even a different 1'4 diesel cee'd had more punch, and that's the same engine as the 1.4 diesel Venga, so this seems to be about aerodynamics (punch was tested at motorway speeds). The driving position in the Venga was not great for my wife, as she had to raise her leg too high for the clutch.

The Venga is quite long in the tooth now, it's around since about 2010 and is nearly identical to the Hyundai ix25 which is no longer sold. Ceed is a way better car and wiser choice.
