    Hi all,

Hope everyone is good on this Sunday morning.

So I've a bit of a dilemma I currently have ano early 2012 Skoda superb 1.6 diesel ambition. Great spec really comfy to drive and superb mpg ;)

I feel my time with the old girl has come to an end and I have been looking at alternatives.

    151-162 octavia RS tdi
    Or brand new octavia hatchback

However I feel that diesel may also be, to a degree , be coming to the end of its life in Ireland once euro 7 is passed.

Would I be silly to go for diesel rs over a 1.0 tsi unit in a new octavia?

I don't do huge mileage and would do a run to Dublin fron clare once a month.

Personally since all this dieselgate saga emerged I think newer VAG diesels are less well suited to smaller miles.

I had the exact same engine in pretty much the same car but a year apart. One was Euro 5 and the other Euro 6 and the dpf on the newer one was going a lot more often. I assume they also applied an internal fix well before the story broke which may have impacted it also.

I'm with Ya on this one. My car has had the dpf light come on once at 100,000km and now at 150,000 my egr is showing signs of sticking..

My daily commute is 20mins which is dual carriage way so it gets nice and hot on the way to and from work however I feel 150,000 is very soon for the exhaust system to be clogged up with gunk.

Willing to spend between 25000 and 28000.

Have been window shopping a bit the last few weeks and would pick up anow older RS or a new lower spec octavia for my budget

No of the problems with low mileage diesel driving and plenty of power for "spirited" driving outside the city. :)

Nice find. Definitely going to check that out.

Is cars.ie a new site over only ever used car zone?

carsireland.ie is around a good few years but not as popular as carzone. I use both as sometimes either might have a car that other doesn't.

Another petrol one here though those style wheels don't look great on a white car imo:

I would take that 46mpg figure with a pinch of salt. In reality it'll be closer to 36mpg if you drive reasonably easy. Push it on and it'll push you closer to the high 20's.

So today I visited a very well known merc, vw and skoda dealer in limerick and was absolutely appauled by the service in the skoda section.

I walked around the yard and spotted both a new octavia and a 142 rs. Being interested in both I walked into the dealership and had a look.

Sat into 2 octavias on display, all the while being looked at by a sales man on his phone. There was a lady behind a desk on a phone.

Done the usual open doors, close doors. Looked in the boot , sat into the back to check for size.

I approached the desk and asked the lady for a price list and brochure on the new octavia and she literally answered the phone into my face while I was talking to her and handed me an octavia brochure.

I coukdnt have shown anymore buying signals I I tried.

Had my own car in the forecourt freshly valeted and looking great.

On my way home I spotted an rs in a BMW dealer on the tipp road. I'll head in there tomorrow and hopefully they will have a better approach than an actual skoda main dealer.

Unfortunately an all too familiar tale. Had similar experiences in a couple of Renault dealerships
