    Hi,
Any idea what price you should be asking for Oak trees. They are about 30 foot high.
    Thanks.

What diameter are they at 4-5 feet above ground level? Are they near a road?

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Thanks. I'd say about 3 foot in diameter. Trees are in field beside road.

Do you have a licence to cut them, ain't worth nothing cutting down if you get hit with a massive fine.

Thats a hard question that one.

If you are selling them standing I expect you'd get quite a low price as a potential customer would have to take the risks and undertake the work of felling and transporting the timber.

I'd suggest that your trees would be worth a lot more, if felled and moved to roadside ready for transport, nicely limbed and cut to length and stacked and sorted. say 35-70 euro a ton (appx 1 cubic meter per ton when fresh) or thereabouts, dependent on quality, market, and size.

Where is the stand located? How close to road access? Quality of the crop? Standing volume? (if small harvesting gets very dear)

Harvesting and forwarding to roadside can be cheap if done with tractor and chainsaw in your own spare time. Perhaps recruit some family or suchlike to help.

It can cost 450 euro or more per lorry load to move timber any significant distance, thats up on €20.50/ton

If they are close to me, I am a potential customer (located in the midlands, tang is on the map), I make charcoal and can use material from 50mm/2" diameter upwards. pm me if you wish to have a chat.

    What licence?

    Felling licence

I have 4 spruce that I want to cut down. They are in danger of bringing down some old stone walls if they fall. Do I need to get a felling licence for that?

AFAIK only exemptions are within 30(?) feet of a building or beside a public road.

Exemptions for 30 meters from a dwelling house , 10 metres from public road, loads more exemptions also. Google felling licence for full details.

Thanks for all the replies. Will look into the felling licence etc. Only going to be one or 2 tress so will look at exemptions too
