if you have a serious/life threatening illness you should send in letters confirming this from consultants. They dont take gps letters into account. (I had cancer and they wouldnt take a gp letter confirming diagnosis, so had to wait over 6 weeks to be able to see a consultant to get a letter from them)
There isnt much point in getting a TD to write you a letter as the world and their mother has been doing this for the last few years. And tey really have no sway anymore. Its not like 10 years ago when you might get a bit of help from aTD, even when almost homeless and seriously ill I had 3 local TDs tellme there was no point as if there wasnt a house to give out or I wasnt near the top of the list (at the time I was about 8 years down the list easily) there was nothign they could say that would help.
You can try getting letters from social workers but again Im not sure if this will actually help.
There is only 2 types of preference that I know of on the list, one being medical preference and this is given in different grades depending on the illness/limitations on the person applying. (for eg if you need a wheelchair accessable home, and even with medical pref could take years as its all 2 story homes being built) The other being apreference for currantly homeless people, And again this is graded, starting with families, and then single people are kinda at the bottom of the list again, but obvs if a single bed place came up you would hopefully get first offer.

So best I can say is if you have a serious illness (mental health diagnosis dont often get preference at all, just to warn you, I had consultants letters stating i was being assess for severe mental health isses and they were turned away as not being enough of an issue to get preference)( stuff like cancer/ms type ilnesses that are life limiting are whats taken into account and again only with a consultants letter) And also get proof that you are homeless in homeless accomidation and that should get you some preference. And then the only hurdle is if there is any homes in your areas.

    hope some of that helps

Why would you need to send in a GP letter?
Do you have a medical condition that you feel will help you acquire a home on medical grounds?
