EGR leaking on diesel golf mkv

Just put my TDI golf through full service with vw dealer. As part of the service they put it through a full health check and i was told my cars EGR valve is leaking. VW said it's 649 to fit a new one.

This seems to have been an issue since I bought the car 6 years ago. I bought it second hand in 2011 and the first service I brought it to they mentioned it to me then. I was told it could effect performance down the line but shouldn't make much difference so I never did anything about it.

My car is going perfectly for 6 years and through all the subsequent vw health checks nothing has been mentioned about the valve leak until my service this week. Basically as this doesn't seem to be affecting my car, no engine warning light, no drop in performance, should I bother even looking at this now? The car is 8 years old this year and apparently this valve has been leaking 'slightly' the entire time.

Anyone have a similar experience with this valve?

    Cheers
