Another by the numbers humongous A4 clone from Audi, but a tech fest and a sublime interior. Can see it doing well against the S-Class which is dating or a 7 series which is a bit Meh.

The back end is reminiscent of the short lived Saab 9-5.

Looks like its got about a million design details that can go wrong! A bit too roundy for my tastes.

Looks fine I suppose, kinda generic for today's cars.

From the side it could be any modern car

Beautuful on the interior but what a mundane exterior. Take away the fancy light clusters its an A4 only bigger.

I like it (but I'm a bit of an Audi fanboy) though I think it will continue to struggle against the S Class in terms of pure refinement.

I don't like it, I'd take an A5 or A6 over it any day. Its a bit too porky looking for my tastes.

Very nice. A big car that most here can't dream of owning for 5+ years.

A5 is definitely better looking, but the A5 is very good looking. Cars like the A8, S Class and 7 Series don't really sell on their looks though.

current 7 series with chrome pack and big wheels is best looking luxury german car in my opinion - Audi have never been able to match bmw or merc. in this sector.

Have to say the Beemer does nothing for me in the looks department, I can't tell the difference between the current one and the old one, but that's all subjective I suppose.

    Great looking car imo.

I didn't bother watching the whole video I got fed up looking at those stupid lights, more banks of red LEDs to blind the eyes out of you on a wet night. The front is standard Audi/Ford so it's safe enough, the back is like that horrible Saab alright, not good.

I get a little sick every time I see that chrome festooned lower bumper.

The fact that nearly every SUV on the road now has the "exhaust in the bumper" effect also makes it look a bit samey I think.

To be fair the A8 has never been that much different, looks wise, from the rest of the range in any of its previous models, why would you expect that to change?

As others have said you don't buy an A8 for looks.

Power and toys, and lots of both!

The low down touch screen seems like a terrible idea. Don't like Audi's current look and it's disappointing that the flagship is echoing the rest of the range rather than setting the design going forward. Prefer the exterior to the current 7 Series though. Think they're both a long ways behind the S class.

yummy pic. of 7 series - just made my afternoon.

I've never been a huge fan of Audi's, I find them a bit bland. BMW do good sports saloon's, Audi's are fast luxury saloon's that are really good at what they do they just don't appeal to me like a BMW would. They'd be perfect for motorway driving but I don't think being a good motorway car is a desirable trait.

What does that have to do with what folks think of it?

In my own twisted mindset I thought reminiscence of Renault Megane Sedan :)

The Mazda 6 is nicer looking, at least from that angle anyway...

Very bland looking car for the price.

Very nice. A big car that most here can't dream of owning for 5+ years.

if its supposed to compete with BMW's 7 which starts around 90k you could get one on pcp for about 1500 a month with a decent deposit.

an unaffordable dream to most here - probably not, they might have to move home or never go out ever again , but its not like its a 400k lambo. After 3 years there will be a few examples back sub 50k and quite within a lot of peoples budgets here .

Would they be mad to buy it - perhaps
could they buy it - quite likely.

Audi are really proud of those lights in that video.
Looks grand, but I think the 7 is a better buy. Also the intro video really should have featured the hopefully flagship V10/W12 petrol , and not the (hopefully as low as it goes) diesel V6

I know which I'd rather if I was in the habit of squandering vast sums on luxury cars.

It was a fair observation, paying for the high mileage work that needs doing after 5 years.

    The Lexus might look well
But unlikely to drive well going by most lexus . Never match merc. Or bmw for driving pleasure. There's a 151 LS 600 in cork. Liked older model but current model very bland.

It amuses me when people say that the Audi, Merc ect are bland, I find the BMW 520 very bland and the new model is hardly much different than the model it replaced. I don't think Audi will ever go far from its original exterior design, just some tweaks hear and there. I think the new A8 is a beautiful motor and would buy one in the morning. (if i could afford it !!!!) looking forward to seeing the new A6

I like the light strips in the cabin positioned in the headliner above the B pillar, the rear also looks fantastic. Quite a barren looking dashboard with an interesting design flair, not sure I like it but don't dislike it. Overall I prefer the look of it to the current 7, but would still own the 7 over. And the 7s facelift is due out very soon.

    Bland is grand.

A lot of Audis, some BMWs and even maybe the Jaguar XF could be described as bland and that appeals to an awful lot of people, myself included.

There's a very thin line between bland and simple elegance imo.

The new A8 is typical Audi design and I think they do bland very well. I love it and look forward to seeing the new bland A6 when it arrives. I always loved the A4 shape too, in all it's renditions over the years.

On the other hand, I find it very hard to love or even like the new Honda Civic and even the Lexus LS500 pictured in the earlier post, is at the limit of my tolerance in new design. I do like the new Renault Megane though, but that's right on the edge of my taste in style too.

I suppose it's horses for courses and I always love hearing people's ideas of 'lovely' and 'ugly' where new car shapes are concerned. Variety is the spice of life as they say.
