    Season 8 News

EW has dropped the first photo from The Walking Dead season 8. The image features Daryl and Carol having a little bit of a reunion. Not much to decipher from the picture, unfortunately. Check it out below:

    the-walking-dead-season-8.jpg?itok=AbCkWKaH

Showrunner Scott Gimple also talked briefly about what we should expect from the opening of season 8. Primarily, it's going to be about reunions and first meetings.

“The season finale last year, seeing all the characters together interacting as one, was thrilling. It was exciting to see all these configurations of characters we hadn’t seen before. Even Aaron merely giving Jerry an apple felt satisfying.”

These relationships will continue to be a major part of the new season. Season 8 will

“This is that times a million,” Gimple said.. “Though it would be cool if the season began with just everybody giving each other apples. I’d be down with that. But it’s not that.”

    Season 8 Release Date

The Walking Dead Season 8 will return for 16 episodes in the fall of 2017. We're almost certain it will be in October, which is tradtionally when the show premieres. Given that the show usually arrives in mid to late October, we're going to put our money on either October 8, 15, or 22nd, but don't rule out the 1st or the 29th, either. Regardless, unless there's a big change, The Walking Dead Season 8 premiere will be in October.

    Season 8 Cast

Negan will return for more evil shenanigans in The Walking Dead season 8. Speaking on The Howard Stern Show (via ComicBook.com), actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who's had the tough task of bringing the infamous villain from the comics to our TV screens, confirmed his return, saying, "I know I will be on board for Season 8."

This news shouldn't come (mild comic spoiler)
as a surprise at all for those who have been keeping up with Robert Kirkman's comics, in which Negan is still alive and well more than fifty issues after his initial appearance. If showrunner Scott Gimple's plan is to continue being faithful to the books, then there's still a lot of ground to cover in terms of Negan.
THR reports that Steven Ogg (Simon), Katelyn Nacon (Enid) and Pollyanna McIntosh (Jadis) have been promoted to series regulars for The Walking Dead season 8. This should come as no surprise, as their roles seemed to grow throughout season 7. It will especially be great to see much more of Simon, Negan's smiling henchman, and Jadis, the enigmatic leader of the garbage people.

In other news, TV Line reports that two new characters are coming to The Walking Dead season 8. The first is a character named Dillon, who is described by TV Line as "a sexy, blue-collar twentysomething whose survival skills include sarcasm." The other is Abbud, a Muslim American who's spend a lot of time alone since the outbreak. TV Line says Abbud's "nerves are jangled." The outlet also reveals that Dillon might be around for a while, based on the casting calll, which hints that the character might get picked up for multiple seasons.

    Season 8 Story

Here's a quick update on The Walking Dead season 8. It sounds a lot like showrunner Scott M. Gimple has been taking on board some of the criticisms of season 7. Namely, Gimple seems to be reacting to the common complaint that season 7 was a slow, stagnating affair, where all the cool characters stayed in separate locations for far too long.

Gimple said this to Entertainment Weekly...

"By virtue of the fact that the narrative has turned into one of pretty intense conflict, [...] it's going to affect the structure in ways that make it a bit more kinetic, a bit more breakneck — shifting away from entire stories in one episode, and sort of fractured over several episodes, with little pieces of each story coming together."

He also promised that "things are going to move, and possibly not have the kind of deep dives into characters in single episodes, but rather laying out the pieces as we go on."

Comicbook.com reports that Walking Dead veteran Greg Nicotero will be back to direct the season 8 premiere, which will coincidentally be the 100th episode of the show. This should come as absolutely no surprise to fans of the show. Nicotero has directed 20 episodes of the show, including the last few premieres, midseason finales, midseason premieres, and season finales. He's the go-to guy for the big episodes and that'll undoubtedly continue for as long as Nicotero is involved with the show.

'Walking Dead' Stuntman Airlifted To Hospital After 30-Foot Fall
UPDATE: Production on Season 8 of AMC’s The Walking Dead has been halted temporarily in the wake of a stuntman suffering life-threatening injuries in an on-set fall.

UPDATE 2: John Bernecker has since passed away.

John Bernecker, a stuntman who works on the set of Walking Dead, has been hospitalised after a 30 foot fall, Deadline reports.

Bernecker was on set in Georgia when the fall occurred, though it's unclear whether it was during filming.

The stuntman hit his head on concrete and had to be airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center where he's in ICU, according to reports.

His partner, Jennifer Cocker, took to Facebook to post a status about his condition. She wrote: "John deserves to be seen by every neorusurgeon and doctor there is until one of them sees the life we all know he has in him and bring him back to us... THIS ISNT FAIR."

He has worked on many high profile titles, with his recent work being on Get Out, The Fate of the Furious and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2.
Walking Dead had another tragedy recently when Randy Schell, who voiced the instantly recognisable "previously, on Walking Dead" line passed away.

Schell, who voiced adverts for Nike, 20th Century Fox, Coca-Cola and McDonald's, passed away last week after his parachute got tangled during a group jump near Houston, Texas, Daily Mail reports.

Dad-of-three Randy fell to the ground after he collided with an experienced jumper, who is reported to have injured his leg, at Skydive Spaceland.

It was Randy's second jump of the day, having successfully completed another earlier.

Fans of Walking Dead will know the voiceover artist for the tagline "previously" at the beginning of episodes.

A spokesman for Skydive Spaceland said: "Both jumpers had made at least one successful skydive earlier that day, had hundreds or thousands of skydives each, and were jumping their own parachute systems."

The last season was utter trash - I will not be watching S8 unless I hear it's dramatically improved.

Meanwhile, Fear the Walking Dead continues to grow and the latest season makes a mockery of the last season or two of TWD.

    New key art;

The official AMC synopsis for the series’ eighth season reads:
Last year, Rick Grimes and his group of survivors were confronted with their deadliest challenge yet. With the comfort of Alexandria, they let their guard down, only to be reminded how brutal the world they live in can be. The introduction of Negan and the Saviors broke our group.

Feeling powerless under Negan’s rules and demands, Rick advocated the group play along. But seeing that Negan couldn’t be reasoned with, Rick began rallying together other communities affected by the Saviors. And with the support of the Hilltop and Kingdom, they finally have enough fire power to contest the Saviors.

This year, Rick brings “All Out War” to Negan and his forces. The Saviors are larger, better-equipped, and ruthless — but Rick and the unified communities are fighting for the promise of a brighter future. The battle lines are drawn as they launch into a kinetic, action-packed offensive.

Up until now, survival has been the focus of Rick and our group, but it’s not enough. They have to fight to take back their freedom so that they can live. So that they can rebuild. As with any battle, there will be losses. Casualties. But with Rick leading the Alexandrian forces, Maggie leading the Hilltop, and King Ezekiel leading the Kingdom — Negan and the Saviors’ grip on this world may finally be coming to an end.
