Looking at a 141 1.5 diesel qashqi. I was gonna go all guns blazing bit then someone told me they were crap. Anyone have any experience with the newer models, shed any light?

They are very popular, so not everyone can be wrong.

Everyone has an opinion but I suggest you ask someone who has owned one or perhaps even a few.

Someone somewhere will say that about every car out there today. There are plenty of on line reviews on you tube and written reviews you can easily access. Overall they are a popular and well made car but the SUV market is a fierce fighting ground and new models like the ateca and kodiaq are really shaking things up. Much bigger boots, really good value for money so keep all options open.

Driven one for a day while my last car was in for a service. Hated it- rolled like a barge on roundabouts, was very underpowered and doubt it was even economical by how much the gauge had moved with not a big amount of mileage.

They are popular and very saleable should you get it wrong.

Do you know what model it was? I heard the 1.2 petrol are quite floppy alright

    crap by what metrics?

We've had a 2012 Q+2 for 2 years now. It's rock solid. Never misses a beat. Passed NCT first time without any sort of pre NCT servicing. Only things to be serviced in two years were some rear pads (the first time since rolling off the line) and oil changes.

Maybe the person who pronounced them to be crap likes to drive GTI golfs or X5s etc

As another poster said - they are unbelievably popular so many many people can't be wrong.

All hinges on what your planned uses for it would be...

Honestly I have had no such experience.

Me neither. I guess if you're a) used to something much lower to the ground, and b) see getting round a roundabout as quickly as possible as some kind of challenge, then I suppose it might not be the car for you though.

It was the standard 1.5 diesel- this was a few years, was probably the 2013 model. New one might be better

I was coming from an Insignia- not a car noted for it's chrisp handling but felt like a rally car compared to one of those. Honestly couldn't wait to drop it back

They are common and boring to look at and drive

The new model is actually quite sharp. The older one was dull as dishwater alright

Had a new 1.5 Qashqai for 10 days in June as a hire car in Portugal. I was surprisingly impressed with it. Very capable car, from 110km/h motorway cruising to driving through towns and villages. Presumed it was a 2.0 due to the nice power delivery, was surprised halfway through the holiday when i found out it was a 1.5. I'd imagine it would be a very easy car to live with.

Hi just wondering how ya got on? We're going looking at one today, did ya buy?

I'm not the original poster, but thought I might chip in with my experience.

I have a 161 1.5 diesel one. This has the newer diesel engine that only started with the 161 reg. I've had it from new.

Overall it's an ok car. Meaning that I'm not wowed by it.

The engine itself is really good. Accelerates really well. Loads of torque. I'd definitely recommend it over the wimpy 1.2L petrol engine. The handling is fine for an SUV, unless as other posters mentioned, you're planning on thrashing it around roundabouts at speed.

    My main issue with it is reliability;

1- I've already had to change the battery!! It started occaionally not starting, and giving me an error message saying "Auto-stop/start system fault". It initially would do that o random occasions, then if I left it for 20-30 minutes, it would start again, no problem. It then decided to do that and not start at all. When I googled it, turns out that this was a warning sign that the battery was dying. As the car is still under warranty, I called the tow company out, they charged the battery, called the dealer and got it replaced on the spot under warranty. Take into acount, this happened when the car was 1 year old. It was less than a month after the 1 year service. It had less than 8000 kilometers on the clock!!
My gripe with all this, is that a simple google search of this, reveals that this is a very common thing on all Qashqais starting the 2014 model. They say that the battery is too small for the tech in the car (especially the auto stop/start system). Well, if it's been that obvious and common since 2014, why didn't they bloody start putting more powerful batteries in newer ones all the way up to 2016???
What's even worse, A friend of mine has the same car (2016), but 1.2L petrol in a nother country. So the specs are a bit different and his car doesn't have the auto stop/start system. Guess what. He had to change his battery too!!

2- I noticed a rattle in the drivers door. Over the course of a couple of months, it was as if I was driving a rattling old banger. I took it to the body shop at the dealers. They stripped the door panel, tightened a loose nut and that was it. I didn't have to pay anything.
Again, my gripe was that it's only me who drives this car. I certainly didn't drive over any potholes. It's just poor workmanship. Probably, in their quest to get as many cars off the production line, as quick as possible, occasionally these things will happen.

Apart from those two issues, it's been ok.

Would I buy it again? NO. The whole point of me buying a new car, is to not worry about reliability in the first few years. I know, others could consider those issues to be minor, but for me they're deal-breakers. I'm actually waiting on the PCP to expire in the next few months, to trade it in. Have no intention of keeping it. Even though, it's only done 18,000 kilometers so far.

Hope that helps you make up your mind.

    Forgot to mention fuel consumption.

The 1.5L diesel is very economical. It averages under 6L/100km in town. It actually is more economical to run than my wife's Prius Plus (1.8L Hybrid).

I can't comment on the 1.2L petrol, as I have no experience with it.

    We bought a 151 n-Tec 1.5 diesel on Saturday.

    Coming from a 1.6tdci 10 focus.

Gonna take a couple of weeks to get used to the new gadgets and the higher driving position.

Thanks for the heads up on the battery issue.

What will ya go for when you trade in?

    Congratulations. Well wear.

I'm not sure what I'll go for yet. Was thinking of the new VW Tiguan, but haven't read much reviews on it yet.
