Installing Hive Heating controls - getting my head around it!

    Hi All,

Looking for a bit of guidance here. Current heating system is 3 zones controlled by standard 3 zone programmer. There's a valve for each zone and a thermostat in the kitchen, upstairs main bedroom and a stat on the hot water tank.

To install Hive multi-zone I assume I place the two receivers (zone 1 + hot water receiver and zone 2 receiver) side by side where the current programmer is and use the cabling that is currently fed to the programmer. Then I remove the wired thermostats and join the wires (or leave them there and turn them up to max). The new Hive controllers now take care of the thermostat function for the heating zones.

For the hot water I will still need a stat on the tank I assume so what do i do with that?

Hope I am being reasonably clear.

Trying to visualize the process before going at it.

your spot on, leave the tank stat 'as is, but link out both the other stats, as the wireless stats will replace them, make sure to flow the pair procedure for the first stat and receiver before pairing the second (as per the manual)

First receiver will be the dual receiver (zone 1 and hot water) and second receiver will be single channel for zone 2 (which will need the link from L-1 unlike the dual receiver which won't)

    Quick one.

Current 3 channel controller only has cables for the NO connections on the backplate. The NC connections are not used . I assume I wire up the two hive back plates the same way.

No issue leaving the NC ones unused provided the stat is removed and the circuit to the motorised valve completed?

    Cheers.

    Thanks DGOBS

All installed and working great. Had to call the UK support number to get the receiver to link up with the rest of the kit. Ten minutes on to them and all was working correctly.

I'd recommend this to anyone wanting remote control over their heating / hot water.

For info I bought the units (2 channel and single channel kit) from amazon for £140 all in. £80 for a previously opened warehouse item for the 2 channel and £60 for the single channel in the recent prime sale.
