    Hi,

My free to air box needs to be replaced. I get channels like BBC1, UTV etc.

Is there any recommendations for a new box I can get online and install myself?

Also, Is it possible to get a box to get foreign sports channels?

    Thanks!

    How tech savvy are you?

From an ease of use and never having to change any channel settings the best advice is to go for an official Freesate box. The basic £99 will allow you view one channel at a time, you can also connect an external hard drive or USB stick to it to record. If you want to go up to near Sky+ functionality then the HDR 1100S is the box to go for starting at £179, you can get them from Argos/Amazon in UK or in Ireland from freetv.ie and other suppliers in Ireland.

    https://www.freesat.co.uk/get-freesat

Other boxes will get you the very same channels and also allow you record, however the channels will require manual updatting should they change frequency which happens from time to time.

No foreign sports channels are on the same satellites Sky/Freesat channels run from.

If you have RTE channels presently then you will need a combi-box and not a freesat box.

Thanks. So I have a saorview box as well. So I will need a combibox to view on all channells.

No, if you have two separate boxes presently then the addition of a freesat box will put you back in the same situation you had previously ... two boxes to view all channels.

If you want all channels - Terrestrial Saorview plus Satellite FTA - on one box then a combi-box is required or some combination of a Satellite tuner and a Terrestrial tuner.

You should get most information you need by reading threads in both the Satellite and Terrestrial sections of the forum.
