Anyone with a charcoal barbecue prob appreciates the time and effort into ensuring the charcoal is stacked properly in order for it to start burning correctly to begin your barbecuing.

The idea of s chimney starter is simple. Fill it with charcoal, there is a cavity at the bottom for a couple of sheets of news paper (I sometimes add a firelighter) and there are holes positioned throughout to allow the fire to breathe.

Light the newspaper, and walk away.

Fifteen mins or so later, your charcoal is completely lit, covered in grey ash, and your ready to begin grilling.

I've seen weber ones similar to this at €35, so this one is absolutely a bargain (I have one myself and the quality is excellent)

Some price and theses things are great for lighting charcoal. Get a pair of leather gloves for when it is lit and you are emptying it into the bbq.

Why do you add a fire lighter?
There is absolutely no need - these thing work beautifully, first time with a few pieces of newspaper.

The advantage of the chimney is that it avoid the chemical stink of lighter fluid....adding a fire lighter will have a similar (if less pungent) effect.

Don't add fire lighters - no need!

Sorry but dont compare this to Weber i know its way cheaper but weber material is much better, bigger will last for much longer than this one, if you use this often.

But its still great for start BBQ and you will not know this till you buy.

3 or 4 on the shelf in Wexford in the seasonal aisle, along the ice cream freezers

About 6 in Naas Tesco extra. BBQ stuff all over but these are in pet food aisle near the self service till.

Lads, it's perfectly normal for a seared steak cooked at high temperature to also have a charred crust as per the vid above.

There are plenty of high-end steakhouses in the States that serve up their cuts of beef precisely that way.

Chimney starter tip: Use less newspaper, but also light a small bit of kitchen roll soaked in vegetable oil.

Tried my local, their local and finglas today, someone said none in Cabra so didn't look. Good knows when I'll be in one in Drogheda
