Where do you store your photos

Hey all. My PC is now jam packed with Raw files, JPEGS, Videos etc and is struggling. I have 2TBS of plug in storage as well to take the load but I'm looking to clear my PC to get it running faster. I'm worried about these plugin hardrives failing and have heard horror stories of people losing everything.

So what's the best storage solution for photographers, be it online or plug in hard drives?

i have 2 1TB HDs in my PC, with a mirror of my photos folder on each, and a further mirror on a portable disk which is usually left in a relative's house.

though the best policy i can advice is more judicious pruning. i'd say i could delete most of my photos and never miss them.

Yes I have the same problem! 60-70% could probably be deleted in fairness but would take me ages to go through them.

I keep one copy on the hard drive in the computer, mirrored to an external hard drive and a third on an external drive I keep off site. I have some cloud storage that I can backup things to until I can update the off site hard drive.

I've a 6TB disk in my PC just for photo storage, which is backed up to a pair of individual 6TB USB disks. I try to store at least one offsite. I also have a NAS in my attic which everything is backed up to.

I have every photo backed up to an external hd. I have also uploaded a copy of every photo to private facebook albums and private imgur albums. Worst comes to worst I've got them to download again.

A handy way to delete is

install windows live essentials photo gallery its free

Set recycle bin in windows to not ask for delete confirmation

    Open photo gallery

    Open first photo

If you want to it delete press del

If you want to keep press right arrow

Now the fun part repeat the last 2 steps as fast as you can, you can easily go through over 100 photos per minute deleting all the crap

Multiple copies on multiple hard disks in 2 locations is always a good option.

In addition I strongly recommend Google Photos. It can back-up automatically, is free for unlimited storage (if you use the high-quality option), can handle and view most Raw formats and has great automatic indexing (people and objects).
