Invalidity and lump sums

As far as I'm aware, invalidity payments are not means tested, but I heard from someone I know that they were contacted by welfare wondering if an insurance claim they were involved with had been settled yet. This made the person in receipt of the payment worried about the possibility of losing their payments if they were awarded a lump sum of money?

Anyone know if they should be worried? Cheers!
