I turned into Galway bay fm the other night and a repeat of the Keith Finnigan show was playing at 11pm, when did they give up on night time live radio ? Whatever happened to the cringe late night love shows ?

Forgive me if I'm wrong but why do I get the feeling you've been here before under another user account - or even accounts?! The posts seem familiar...

Anyway, its been a very long time since I've heard KF (thankfully) either in the morning or heaven forbid at bedtime. I've posted this before but GB FM is in a time warp like no other. Tune in today and it sounds the same as it did in 1992.

Fun fact - Corrina Gavin of the Lurrrvvve hour fame lives a few doors away from me ;)

"Double the love" I think the show was called on a sunday night.

Susan Shannon did the weeknight show until the mid 00's, until the camp Murphy guy took over and I believe is still there!

This goes out to all those lovers out there MIL in Mountbellew...
Yeah that camp young fella is still on there afaik. There are no words.

I suppose like the niteclub slow set, the love hour nonsense had its day and would be very dated now. What young ones want to be crying into their radios listening to Careless Whisper these days? I realise this slightly contradicts my previous point about GB FM being unchanged for 3 decades.

I think most stations have given up on late night live radio..A lot of them just repeat their chat show, and just music overnight...

gbfm must be cutting back on their night time schedule. didnt they swap the nightly shows last year with the specialist/traditional shows starting at 10pm?

mid west radio have nightly live programming until 2am, and sometimes way after 2am when michael commins is presenting!

It's been like that for years. In fairness most local stations have very little of an audience during those hours - also does make sense to move specialist shows into the later 10pm slots as many of the target audience will make the effort to tune into those.

I thought the repeat started at 12? That's good I think. I don't get a chance during the day to listen to KF. And there are other alternatives if you just want music. Mind you I think a change is needed in GBFM. He's been presenting that progrgramm for how long? 20 years? Way too long. He's not crisp or incisive enough. Too palsy with so many locals. A breath of fresh air is needed.

I tuned into Alan Murphy the other night for the first time in years and the lad didn't sound half as enthusiastic as he used to be, afterwards I tuned over to Michael Commins on MWR and it sounded like amateur hospital radio, a creaking chair, a ringing phone
