Saloon for 100 miles a day

hi all,
Previously i posted about upgrading my e39 (03 530d touring) to an E60/F10, but given my budget of approx 10k inclusive of the trade in value of my own e39 I think that its time to look outside of bmw... comfort, reliability and economy is more important to me know. My mechanic has also encouraged me to consider looking beyond the 3ltr + cars as he said I don't necessarily need one and the year I tend to buy, he spends more time with the car than I do
I am looking for advice on what is the best options out there for my situation as highlighted below... thanks for any advice..

• Drive 100 miles 5 days a week (motor way and secondary combined
• have 2 kids
• want to keep insurance, tax and economy down
• the more bells and whistles (nav/bluetooth/heated seats etc... the better
• would prefer a warranty than buying private as i've been burned before on second hand cars

E90 touring in a 2.0d with the chain done. Would you not be better off to sell the e39 privately and maybe cross the water? They love a touring over there so there will be a better selection.

Edit: an e39 touring is roughly the same size as a e90 I believe.
